Hi guys,
somebody on the #digikam irc raised an interesting "usability issue" (as he called it), that the entry "Quit" in main menu "Album" doesn't make sense (cause you get Album->Quit - quit the album?). So he suggested to rename the "Album" to "digiKam" and rename the rest of that menu accordingly ("New..." -> "New album..." etc). It makes sense and also Amarok has it exactly the same way.
What do you think? Marty

Also, he said this:
[19:37:25] <markey> mck182: one last tip: consider renaming dikiKam -> Digikam [19:37:30] <markey> believe me, it hurts the app [19:37:34] <markey> for various reasons
[19:37:49] <mck182> markey: you mean to capital D and lower K? [19:37:53] <markey> (Amarok has been "amaroK", so I know the problems...) [19:37:58] <markey> mck182: yes
[19:39:08] <markey> mck182: in short: if journalists write about your application, they have a huge problem: they cannot write "digiKam" at the start of a sentence [19:39:14] <markey> it's not proper English grammar
[19:39:25] <markey> Ryan Paul from Ars Technica explained it to me [19:39:37] <markey> so they write "DigiKam", "Digikam", etc [19:39:41] <markey> that hurts your PR
I just felt like passing this on, so here it is :) Marty

No no, the "Album" in main menu would get renamed to "digiKam" and the inside of the menu would have to be adjusted, because right now there is "New...", "Properties", "Refresh" etc. and all these would lost the context, if the above menu wouldn't be "Album" anymore, so it would have to be all renamed to "New album...", "Album properties", "Refresh album" etc...

Martin,
we must take a care about this change because under mac, digiKam menu entry is done automatically by KDE libs and host quit action, help, about and other stuff. If we force this menu creation by default in digiKam implementation to replace current Album entry, we will see duplicate "digiKam" entries under mac. I don't know how Amarok deal with that. I cannot install it currently with macports Gilles Caulier 2010/10/23 Martin Klapetek <[hidden email]>: > Yes, exactly :) > Marty > > On Sat, Oct 23, 2010 at 20:21, Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> > wrote: >> >> Sound like Mac stuff. Martin, I see. So you have "Quit" menu entry twice on mac, right? Once in "digiKam" and once in "Album"? Hmm...we could also simply rename "Quit" to "Quit digiKam" (as it currently doesn't make sense with the "Quit" being under "Album" main menu).
I'll see if I can find out about that. Martin _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |

digiKam Album menu entry under macosx :
http://www.flickr.com/photos/digikam/5166481922/sizes/o/in/photostream/ Look like Quit action is automatically wrapped by KDElibs under osx... There is only one Quit entry Gilles 2010/11/11 Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]>: > And now digiKam menu under macosx: > > http://www.flickr.com/photos/digikam/5166468008/sizes/o/in/photostream/ > > Gilles > > 2010/11/11 Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]>: >> Martin, >> >> Look this screenshot of Showfoto menu under macosx: >> >> http://www.flickr.com/photos/digikam/5165842147/sizes/o/in/photostream/ >> >> Gilles >> >> 2010/11/9 Martin Klapetek <[hidden email]>: >>> On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 13:20, Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> >>> wrote: >>>> >>>> Martin, >>>> >>>> we must take a care about this change because under mac, digiKam menu >>>> entry is done automatically by KDE libs and host quit action, help, >>>> about and other stuff. >>>> >>>> If we force this menu creation by default in digiKam implementation to >>>> replace current Album entry, we will see duplicate "digiKam" entries >>>> under mac. >>> >>> I see.
