I think you have a great program. My problem is that Ubuntu Software Center has version 3.5. I want the latest version 4.9. Being a dummie, I need a copy of 4.9 that installs itself. Is that possible.

4.9 is available here: https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/ubuntu/extra

Are you comfortable with the command line?

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/extra
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install digikam

You might be better off using first the "Ubuntu way" and then decide
whether 4.9 is worth the trouble.

Google tells me that Ubuntu has version 4.7
