I decided to take a look at Print Creator using the latest 5.8 appimage
for 64 bit Linux. Printing a single image via GIMP works fine as long as I use a standard paper size like A4 or Postcard. However when I want to print a non-standard paper size which my printer supports like 7x5 inches there is no option for that size and no custom paper size, at least I've not found a way to set a custom size. This is an issue for me and actually 7x5 photo paper is quite common especially for Canon printers (and maybe others as well). I know I can scale a photo in GIMP to be that size but by the time the photo reaches GIMP it is already scaled by Digikam so I'm not working with the original. The current implementation to print via GIMP is fine if using standard paper sizes but to print on non-standard paper it is still better to open the image in GIMP and scale and print from GIMP. This is still a problem with QT's print component:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-58733 This hasn't seen any progress for a long time, but now there is a patch in review, so hopefully we will see a fix released in the near future. Yes I'm aware of this patch but print creator does not give me an option
to print directly to a printer, only PDF Image file or GIMP and unless you can select a printer no way will it display the valid sizes for the printer (in my case 7x5). The fix for this issue in QT just hit my Tumbleweed system today. I have
tested Print Creator under a normal install of 5.7 of digikam and it allows me to select the printer and QT gives me the valid paper size I want and am allowed to select it OK. The Appimage 5.8 however does not allow me to select my printer though so am unable to use Appimage version if I want to print. Hi All,
I have followed this thread and installed 5.8.0 but I still cannot print anything but a thumbnail image. Is there anything you can suggest I do to change the size? I have tried resizing using GIMP to print as well to no avail Thanks in advance.. Installing a new digikam version wont help you. As long as the issue in
QT I linked to before (https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-58733) isn't resolved and released, it will persist. A solution is underway, but it will still take a while for it to make it into a new QT release, and then into the different distribution repos and/or our appimage. So don't hold your breath on this... For incompatibility reasons, AppImage still build with Qt 5.9.1, not 5.9.3. I will switch to 5.9.3 later DK 5.8.0 release because this require to recompile whole Centos6 environnement from scratch an this take age. Probably the Qt 5.9.3 or better the 5.10 version just released i December will work better with printer settings. I don't know and i must check all regression tests before to update Qt in AppImage. So one problem after another one. Gilles Caulier 2017-12-29 18:18 GMT+01:00 Stuart T Rogers <[hidden email]>: The fix for this issue in QT just hit my Tumbleweed system today. The fix for this is available and does work but will take some time for
systems to get the QT release that contains it. Please be aware that the fix is in QT and has nothing to do with digikam. The issue which is fixed is that the Print Creator is unable to select anything other than non-standard paper sizes, in my case I was unable to select 5x7 borderless for my Canon iP7250 printer amongst other non-standard sizes. This is because it calls QT to do this. This bug affects any and all applications which use QT Printing Support. The problem you have Melissa sounds to me like a problem in digikam and this fix will do nothing for you. I suggest you start a new thread about your issue and follow up through that. Stuart, When you said that fix is in Qt and is fixed, do you know which Qt version will include this patch ? All I know is what is in the bug report. I run openSUSE Tumbleweed and was told they had added the fix in an update they produced which is why I can test it. As yet I do not know what the final fix release will be. Apparently the fix was added to a QT 5.10 update in Tumbleweed but whether this is the final fix release or if it will be backported I do not know. Sorry. That is confusing me: The bug report is still open and the proposed fix
is still in review (not even merged to the dev branch, let a lone a review). So unless the Tumbleweed guys are awesome (and brave enough) to bundle QT review code, there must be something else out there addressing the same thing? I cannot get this to print with any paper size. I am running 5.8.0 on Windows 10. Thanks again, Melissa

Melissa all I can say is that without the fix I was able to print OK but
just NOT to the paper size I wanted. Another significant issue is that I am running Linux not Windows. I have tried the 5.8 appimage (for Linux) but because it comes complete with all the code needed it still not allow me to select the correct paper size, and the only way I can print with the appimage version is to use GIMP because it does not see my real printer. I am hoping others here will come up with some suggestions for you as I am unable to help with Windows.
