Two search questions

Bugzilla from gandalf.lechner@univie.ac.at
Hi all,

I have to simple questions regarding search tools in digikam 0.10-svn:

1) Is the duplicates search implemented already? I clicked "find
duplicates" in the corresponding tool, using on a test set containing
identical images, but it returned nothing. (Fingerprints were updated
before.)

2) In current svn, I can't see the (highly anticipated ;-) ) map search
tool. I have a marble widget, with options to add or remove measure
points, but can't figure out how to use the search tool as shown in the
promotional video on the digikam website. Do I need a newer version of
marble (0.6 here), or is it just not in svn yet?

Best,
Gandalf

Perhaps you don't have duplicates on your collection.

Can you see any messages from the console ?

Ah. from digiKAm viewpoint, all is fine. from marble, i have posted a
patch to support selection over the map. this one is not yet
adapted/integrated by marble team. there is a file in B.K.O about.
Perhaps you can post a comment to bring marble team again ?

As I did understand he had identical images ;)

Gandalf, when you click "Find duplicates" you should get a number of messages
on the console reading "Duplicates with id and score:" followed by image ids
and their similarity in percents.

Hi, and thanks for your answers. Here are some more comments/questions about
the fuzzy search tools.

To find duplicates, I selected an image and clicked tools->find duplicates from
the menu. At first, nothing appeared in the duplicates sidebar, and also
nothing in the main window. There were also no messages in the console. (Only
"style reset requested" all the time.) At that point I thought duplicate
search was not working at the moment. However, when I shut down digikam, and
started it again, all duplicates were listed in the duplicates sidebar. So the
tool seems to be working after all, and maybe my initial problems were due to
changing digikam databases and settings. I will do some more checking.

Regarding the similar items search, I was a bit surprised to find it not to be
symmetric, i.e. if image A is similar to B then B is not necessarily similar
to A. Is this intended? And just out of curiosity: Is "find duplicates" just
"find similar" with 100% threshold, or is there some more difference?

Finally, regarding the draw sketch search, I found that it often returns
matches which are not even remotely similar to the sketch. Apparantly, setting
the items count to X forces the tool to return precisely X hits in any
situation, if there are similar items or not. Moreover, I am not sure about
the order of the matching pictures (didn't check thoroughly) - are they
ordered by same measure of closeness to the sketch or are they always ordered
by album? The former possibility would be better, of course.

Best regards,
Gandalf
