Re: To Translators : merging DigikamImagePlugins to digiKam...

Fabien,

There is no IRC channel to talk with GUI i18n team, only one foe DOC i18n team (not the same).

I have sent today a message to the right mailing list (common for both team). Look here :

http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-i18n-doc&m=117464200530939&w=2

In fact, they still work :)
I will remove the svn update digikamimageplugins that is not useful
anymore, but even with that, it's ok (no error, no warning)...

fine...

Could you resume the changes about po files ?

If I'm not wrong, there's only digikam.pot and nothing else ?

exactly... Normally, the digikam.po will be size up.

Nota : i'm sure to 90% that we can merge all old digikamimageplugins po files to digikam.po to not re-translate all....

Will other digikamimageplugins*.pot be removed soon ?

yes, by i18n teams, not me. I'm trying to contact i18n team today by IRC about this subject.

Gilles

Ok, fine.

It's weird : the digikam.pot file didn't change since last sunday
(2007-03-18 11:52+0100). Isn't it supposed to be automatically updated
at least daily ?

Gilles Caulier-4
yes normally. Perhaps the scripts have been stopped for maintenance.

I have seen than some crontrols have be set to handle KDE i18n in svn...

Is others .po files like amarock are updated ?

Hello Lyn!
The latest menu proposal is listed below. Some terms are being discussed right
now, and we would like to have your opinion as a native english speaker and
usability expert on it:

- Fix versus Correct
- Filters versus Effects
- Tools versus Decoration

Coherence between applications: the terms and actions should be recognizable
by users changing from other applications to digiKam or who switch between
them.

  File (as is 0.9.1)

  Edit (as is)

Well, not expert but some remarks:

a) Correct is IMO better as longer - easier to hit with mouse
b) Filters is more common term (GIMP, Photoshop)
c) Not sure about wording in other apps but Decoration is better as
adding something to image, Tools could suggest changing it and create
   confusion with Filters/Effects

After more consideration and rewriting the handbook I tend to your choice:
Correct, Filters, Decoration. I English those terms seem rather clear except
for filters which has a technical legacy.
In French we do not know the verb 'correct', it's an adjective, but in English
it is foremostly a verb as 'corriger'.

Gerhard

Maybe "Corrections" would be better than "Correct". All other names of
menus are nouns while "Correct" is verb.

You have a point there (rpl -R <guimenu>Correct <guimenu>Corrections .)

About translation (was Re: To Translators : merging DigikamImagePlugins to digiKam...)

Fabien-5
In reply to this post by Gilles Caulier-4
Hello,

I updated the digikam.po to merge the different translation files.

Finally, this wasn't too long :

- concatenate latest stable digikam.po file with digikamimageplugins*
files (all files from 0.9.1 stable release) to a new file

- use msguniq to remove duplicated

- use msgmerge to update the file against the latest digikam.pot (from svn)

That's it. After that, I have "only" 140 fuzzy/untranslated strings :)

Thanks Fabien for this feedback.

Note than the same thing must be done with handbook later. Gerhard work under doc actually and it's not yet completed.
At end, will will only have one handbook for digikam, DigikamImagePlugins, and _showfoto_. This way will reduce the huge duplicate screenshot
from old handbooks.

Oliver, are you started to merge German GUI translations ?
