Thumbnails are slow to load?

The database is on an ssd but the photos are stored on NAS.

When scrolling through the photos they are slow to load, I notice digikam is accessing files located on the NAS and not the local thumbnail database on the ssd?

what am I missing here?

Apparently, when digikam scans and adds files to its libraries, it does not generate a thumbnail for them at the moment. Rather, the thumbnail is generated on the fly when the picture is shown on thumbnail view.

(I could be wrong, please correct me if that's the case).
