Thumbnail generation

Gys van Zyl
Hi all,

Is there some way to get all the thumbnails in an album to generate automatically?  Currently, when I open an album for the first time, digikam starts generating the thumbnails, but only for the photo's that are visible on screen.  This means that I have to sit and patiently wait for the thumbnails to generate, scroll down to get the next lot, wait again, and repeat.  I'd like to be able to tell the software to generate all the thumbnails in an album (or a group of albums), go on with something else, and come back when its done.  Is this possible?

Thanks,
Gys

Tools -> Rebuild All Thumbnails

But it is not in the background.

Well, with 0.10.0, it do. You can reduce progress dialog and continue
to play with the rest of digiKam

Re: Thumbnail generation

Thanks for the responses.  I have been wary of the "Rebuild All Thumbnails" menu option, because if I remember correctly the last time I did it (a long time ago), it just deleted all the existing thumbnails causing them to be regenerated in the usual fashion whenever an album is opened the first time.

Can you confirm that this is definitely not the expected behaviour, but that this command will cause all thumbnails in the entire collection of albums to be regenerated?  So, the next time an album is opened, the thumbnails will all be there already, with no need to wait for the generation process?

If so, this is exactly what I was looking for, as I can simply start the process to run overnight.
