I just noticed, that somewhere between digiKam 3.1.0 and
3.5.0, a new feature was added, which I missed for a long time:
When tagging images with the input-box "Enter new tag
here..." in the "Tags"-tab of the "Caption/Tags"-sideview,
you start to type and digikam presents a list with tags
matching to the input text (= autocomplete).
This list now (as of 3.5.0), seems to be sorted by the last
usage-date of each tag. This is great!
E.g. if you have three persons with first name = "John" in
your tag list and you want to tag about 100 images of a
family event, where only one John was invited, the other two
Johns get sorted downwards automatically.
This speeds up tagging! Thanks a lot!
