DigiKam V-5.2.0 Windows 7
I read the instructions in The Handbook and attempted to replace a few tag icons with image thumbnails. I drag-&-dropped the chosen image thumbnail onto the tag's icon in the right-side category/tag tree view; at which point I got a message with the option "set as tag thumbnail", which I selected/clicked. The image thumbnail sort of flinched like they do when something is going on; however, there was no change to the tag's icon; no image thumbnail appeared; nothing happened. I tried this several times with no success. Also, I am almost certain that I read in The Handbook that, when I right-clicked an image thumbnail, the choice to "set as tag thumbnail" would be in the contextual menu; no such choice appears in those I tried. I right-clicked a tag and chose "properties", but could not make heads nor tails as to whether I could do anything there. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for reading. |
Try to restart digiKem after to apply Tag icon to see if it take effect. Gilles Caulier 2017-02-06 6:02 GMT+01:00 BuckSkin <[hidden email]>: DigiKam V-5.2.0 Windows 7 |
I just closed and then re-started DigiKam and still no new thumbnails for the tags.
This is copy/pasted straight from The DigiKam Handbook: "To select a photograph as the tag icon, right-click on the photograph that you want to use as the tag icon and select Set as Tag Thumbnail from the context menu. Additionally you can use drag and drop to set the tag icon. Drag the images icon and drop it on the currently selected tag in the tag list." When I right-click on an image thumbnail, I do not have the choice "Set as Tag Thumbnail"; is that because I am in Windows instead of Linux and Windows lacks the ability; or, is The Handbook giving instructions for a feature that no longer exists; or, is it a bug/flaw ? By the way, I appreciate all the help. |
This bug is fixed in digiKam-5.5.0

Thanks.
So I guess it isn't just me doing something wrong. Such a minor annoyance is not enough to make me install a newer version; however, it does bring the question --- how big of an episode is it to update to a more recent version ? Does the new version just overwrite the old ? Is there such a thing as having two versions operable at the same time ? Thanks for reading. |
After reading that link about the bug fix, just to see what happened, I converted an image to .png, went to tag properties, clicked the icon box, selected the second bullet option ("other" I think it said), and browsed to my .png image.
When all was said and done, I had my new .png image showing as the tag thumbnail, although so small that I had to use the binoculars to see it. Is there a way to make the tag thumbnail icons larger ? Thanks for reading. |

They must have missed my copy of version 5.5.0; I just installed it specifically to fix the ability to set tag icons easily from the right-click menu; there is no improvement to this behavior whatsoever and I am still having to create specific PNG images and go through the fifteen step process of installing them manually. Albums > Rename is also still greyed out and does nothing. The only difference I have found is the geolocation notifier has changed from a big rectangle to a small "globe" icon, which is an improvement. Thanks for reading. |
To set up a tag icon works simply with D&D from a image to the tag icon. The
new tag icon is only displayed with a icon size >= 22 pixels (see setup). Album->rename works only if the album view aktivated. Maik On Donnerstag, 2.
