Slideshow writes metadata to file - why?

Anders Kamf
Hi!

First: thanks for a great program!

I have a question about metadata embedded in files. Whenever showing a
picture in the slideshow, digiKam edit the metadata of the picture. It
adds information to the file:

Processing Software             : digiKam-2.5.0
Software                        : digiKam-2.5.0
Creator Tool                    : digiKam-2.5.0
Originating Program             : digiKam

I like digiKam to save image rating etc. to metadata embedded in
files, but that is when I change i.e. the rating. I don’t want it to
change a file when simply viewing it in the slideshow.

Anybody know why digiKam does this?
Is it possible to turn off? (The settings are quite detailed about
which metadata to save embedded in the files, but as far as I can see
it doesn’t say anything about this specific behavior.)

Regards
Anders

Gilles Caulier-4
During a slideshow, no file must be touch. Only metadata are read,
excepted if you apply rating change of image and turn on digiKam
metadata settings to write digiKam info to image...

Re: Slideshow writes metadata to file - why?

Anders Kamf
But this is what happens, metadata is written (not only read) during
the slideshow. It is just passively watching, no rating update or
anything else is done.

Should I report it as a bug then?

Anders

Gilles Caulier-4
Can you identify what is changing in metadata before and after playing slide ?

Do you use Advanced Slideshow kipi-plugin or simple digiKam slideshow ?

Re: Slideshow writes metadata to file - why?

Anders Kamf
Thanks for putting attention to this issue!

The following four tags are changed (created) when a picture is showed
in slideshow:
Processing Software   : digiKam-2.5.0
Software              : digiKam-2.5.0
Creator Tool          : digiKam-2.5.0
Originating Program   : digiKam

These four tags are also created/set when e.g. applying rating or a
tag to a picture. In that case it is not a big problem though, since
the metadata is touched anyway.

I.e. if a picture is tagged from digiKam and then showed in slideshow,
nothing will happen since the four tags are already present in the
metadata. But if a picture is not touched by digiKam before, or
touched by an older version of digiKam, there will a change.

The problem is only when using the simple digiKam slideshow (F9), the
advanced one doesn’t change the metadata.

Thanks!
Anders

Re: Slideshow writes metadata to file - why?

Gilles Caulier-4
Ok, please test with last 2.7.0. If it's reproducible, please file a
new entry in bugzilla.

Thanks in advance
