Scan for new items takes ages after syncing collection btw. two computers

personally, I sync the DB file in order to ensure I don't lose any image
comments.

Settings -> Configure Digikam
select "Metadata" from left column

You then have a bunch of checkboxes for "Write this information to the
metadata". Check whichever ones you want. 
"Captions and Title" would be the relevant one in this case.
