Risks using digikam 1.2.0?

Ben Staude
Hi all,

I'm currently running kubuntu 10.04 which is shipping digikam 1.2.0. I plan to
upgrade to 11.04 (natty) when it's out. And I want to migrate my digital
images to digikam. Is there any risk for my data using this old digikam
release, i.e. have there been bugs beyond usability that have been fixed since
those times so that it makes sense to migrate only *after* the os update?

I know it's all somewhere in the changelogs, but I'd never be able to filter
them for the relevant changes. I hope some of you remember directly:)

Thanks.

Ben

If you shot with a Nikon, there's an annoying issue with current 1.2.0 at
writing metadata to image files.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/exiv2/+bug/596327

Aside from that, I don't see any difficulties. I'd backup my files before
upgrading ;-)

Greetings, Michael.

One risk is raw conversion to dng.  The original raws, if embedded,
cannot then be extracted or detached.  Thus, you'll lose your original
raw file and carry a larger dng.  The workaround is to convert to dng
without embedding and keep the original raw (if you want it).
Obviously, this shouldn't prevent your use of 1.2.
