Reorganize Tags

Rainer Dorsch
Hello,

I would like to reorganize Tags (from flat to heirarchies). Is there a way to
rename a tag and move it in the heirarchy?

Thanks,
Rainer

Re: Reorganize Tags

In my version 2.0.0 beta 6 I can in ¨caption/tags¨ tab, rightclick on the tag and in ¨properties¨ rename it. With left click I can drag it everywhere I want.

Thanks, Rinus for the quick reply.

Works well.

Can I filter/search for photos with a certain combination of tags?

The search field at the bottom also searches for album names and does not allow
combinations for tags...

Thanks,
Rainer

If you use the ¨filters¨ tab you can make all sorts of combinations. If you, in that window, rightclick on a tag you can choose ¨tag filter mode¨ and select ¨should have¨ or ¨should not have¨ this tag. In combination with the left side ¨Tag¨ tab and the possibillity to check and uncheck the menu item ¨View¨ -> ¨include tag subtree¨ you could do almost anything

Re: Reorganize Tags

Andrew Goodbody
In reply to this post by Rinus
My issue with reorganising tags was that it did not alter the tags
already applied to the images. This leaves the metadata on the images
inconsistent with the database.
So in order to avoid this I only rarely rearrange any tags. If I decide
that I really want to do it then I will select all images with the
problem tag first of all. Apply a temporary tag to them all, then select
on that temporary tag. Now I can remove and delete the old incorrect tag
and then create the new correct tag in the right place. Finally I can
remove and then delete the temporary tag.

Re: Reorganize Tags

Rinus
Hi Andrew,
Personaly I never write such things to my picture, but if you do:
Yes, in a quick test I was able to confirm that.
writing the metadata to the image and rereading removes the
inconsistency but yes you have still the old tags.
I think that it is a bug, did you make a bug report?

Rinus

Hi,

is there a solution for this bug in Beta 6?

When changing an exisiting tag, digikam should apply these changes to
all files.

Problem - I dropped the database and let dk do a whole rescan of my one
hundred thousand pictures. Now I am having hundred of tags twice or
triple (I reorganize them sometimes) and I have to correct this manually:
1. Select all pictures with the wrong tag on the left side
2. deselect the wrong tag, select the correct tag on the right side
3. delete the wrong tag
4. wait ages.
This is going to take weeks, because deleting (or creating) a tag takes
about 5 Minutes. (MySQL on a NAS, 1GBit/s) Moving a tag is fast.

suggestions?

Ben
