Removing image from the database (after deleting picture)

woenx
Ok, this may sound like a stupid question, but I'm struggling to do something
really simple.

I moved some pictures from one folder to another (using the file manager in
windows). Those pictures still appear in the album in Digikam. I tried
cleaning the database, refreshing the album, re-reading the metadata from
the pictures in the album, but none deleted the thumbnails of the
non-existent pictures in digikam. They appear as being 0KB and with a 0x0
(0.00Mpx) resolution, though.

How do I get rid of those thumbnails? Shouldn't "refresh" do that?

Thanks

Re: Removing image from the database (after deleting picture)

I am currently refreshing and cleaning the whole database, let's see if that
works, although it's going to take a while.

But basically that's what I did. Using windows file manager, I moved some
pictures from one folder to another. Then in digikam (which was already
open), I refreshed the original album in order to get rid of the removed
pictures, but nothing happened, they are still there. I also re-read the
metadata for that album, to no avail.

I think they should disappear automatically or at least have some option to
"update" the contents of the album.

I'm using digikam 5.8.0 on Windows 10 64 bit, by the way.

Try renaming thumbnails.db and see if that helps.

I'm having the same issue and I am using Ubuntu Mate.  I only noticed yesterday and I haven't had time to take a closer look at the problem.

I used to have such issue on Windows a year or so ago. There should be a bug report in bugzilla on that.

A quick check shows that the two thumbnails exist on both albums . . . the source and target for a move.  What I discovered was a collision of file names as I had foolishly tried to complete a move before applying unique file names.  The original images in the target album do not appear at all in the digikam thumbnails but when I look at the folder on the hard drive the original files are still in the target and the transferred files are not.  No warning appeared when I made the move using digikam.

Ok. Doing the whole "Explore new items" and "clean the database" did the
trick, even if it took more than half an hour to complete. There should be
an option just to do that for a selected album.

DigiKam-5.9.0 includes a workaround that checks if the move operation will
fail and does not move the image inside the database. The notification
indicates whether errors occurred while moving.

Re: Removing image from the database (after deleting picture)

In reply to this post by woenx
Ok, sorry, it worked for that folder, but not for others.

I have a folder which that still appears despite no longer existing. But
it's a very particular case:
There were two folders with different content, one written in uppercase and
the other in lowercase. That happened because the server where they are
stored is case sensitive (debian), but windows (where digikam runs) is not.
Therefore, during a normal scan, digikam somehow saw the two folders and
distributed the pictures and subfolders inside them quite randomly.

So obviously, I renamed one of these folders so it has a different name.
After a full scan, digikam now sees three folders, the two original ones
(uppercase and lowercase, with similar but not identical content) and the
new one.

This is going to be a tough one...
