Hello to the list,
I am using Version 4.12.0 on Windows 7. I want to remove all tags from all 15 000 or so pictures in my library. Some are saved in files and others are in the SQLite database. I've searched the mailing list, but not found an answer this question, and anyway the software is evolving too fast for old methods to be valid. Over the years I've used various management software to write metadata and now my tag list is quite a mess and I can't stand it! I would rather scrap all tags and slowly start over - I know, tedious work but worth it, for me, anyway. Is it possible to do this withing digiKam v12? Yes you can.
Go to Tag Sidebar and press Open Tags Manager. Sync & Export -> Wipe all Tags from Database Only ( now all tags from database are deleted) Then press Write Tags From Database to Image ( it might take a lot of time, but after it is done, all tags are deleted from pictures) On Thu, Aug 20, 2015 at 11:21 AM, Darryl Penny <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hello to the list, > > I am using Version 4.12.0 on Windows 7. > > I want to remove all tags from all 15 000 or so pictures in my library. > Some are saved in files and others are in the SQLite database. Program is busy clearing image metadata now, going to have something to drink, etc. As you said, it's going to take awhile. Don't care to be honest, I must sort out my (picture) life :-) Regrda, Darryl > On Thu, Aug 20, 2015 at 11:21 AM, Darryl Penny <darryl.penny <at> gmail.com> wrote: > > Hello to the list, > > > > I am using Version 4.12.0 on Windows 7. > > > > I want to remove all tags from all 15 000 or so pictures in my library. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

For sure, don't know how you'll live through 3Mbps If I'm correct that'll take 28 hrs or so! My stuff is less time consuming: I only have +-120GB. So far no remote backups in the cloud. I have 3 portable USB drives: home, work and laptop bag. That means I have 4 copies of the the library, admittedly not all are totally current. Oh, and I have another folder of pure originals from SD cards. > Cheers, > Sjoerd > > _______________________________________________ > Digikam-users mailing list > Digikam-users <at> kde.org > https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users > _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

I realize this thread is too old to give any usable input for your case, but for future reference I can't keep my opinion to myself. That opinion is: such a waste! The tag tree may be quite a mess, but I imagine each foto in and of itself being tagged with valuable labels. By using selections based on (depricated) tags it seems much more comfortable to build op a new tag tree. It is not my business at all, but I am interested whether it was an option at all, and if it was an option, why wiping all tags still was a better option. (and, by the way, have a good time tagging ! ;-) ) Boudewijn _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Surely redundant tags are better than no tags. Maybe there is a way you can translate your old tags to the tags you wish to use in the future?
