Remote album via ssh / ftp ?

Bugzilla from gandalf.lechner@univie.ac.at
Hi digikam users,

today I wanted to add a remote collection to digikam (1.0 svn). Optimistically
I navigated to a sftp connection stored under "network", was asked for the
password, but then received an error claiming that the adress does not exist.

However, using dolphin I can navigate to this remote album, view thumbnails
and pictures.

I am not sure if accessing remote albums via (s)ftp is not yet possible with
the current implementation of digikam or if this is a bug. Could someone
please clarify this?

Best regards,
Gandalf

Re: Remote album via ssh / ftp ?

Bo Hansen
I am using ssh and fuse to access remote albums.

This might be an option for you.

Best regards,

Bo

The files must be available natively. Maybe you tried to use a kioslave? Fuse
as mentioned in the other mail will be fine. Anything only available through
KDE like fish:// does not work (we would have to download each file each time)

Yes, I think my attempt was using a kioslave, just selecting the ssh
connection I configured in dolphin. I don't know this fuse thing, but I'll
have a look.

Thanks,
Gandalf

Fuse is very easy to install/setup see http://fuse.sourceforge.net/sshfs.html

If you are on Ubuntu here is your starter for 10

sudo apt-get install sshfs

Thanks a lot, it's really easy to use! Digikam found the collection via sshfs
and I can see the images and move them around as expected.

However, also here I experience the strange problem I wrote about earlier:
When editing pictures in the ssh collection, I cannot save the results
afterwards, there is always the error "failed to overwrite original file" and
I have to discard the changes.
But I can edit and save if I copy the image to a local collection first.
Afterwards, I can also copy the edited image back to the ssh collection, so
it's neither a problem with the image file nor with write permissions for the
ssh collection.

This specific behaviour I found using digikam 0.10 on opensuse, but similar
problems (also with local collections) I saw on a 1.0 svn on kubuntu as well.

Has anybody else experienced this problem or even a clue how to fix it?

Best,
Gandalf
