Hello I have noticed that some tags for my video files (mp4) disappeared from database. I do see xmp sidecars though and if I open them in Kate I am seeing my tags there. I tried selecting a video "Menu - Item - Reread Metadata from Image" but it does not bring my tags back. I am wondering if there is a way to bring the tags from sidecars back to database. digiKam set to read/write to/from sidecars for read-only image only. Best regards, Andrey |
I also noticed that if there is a star rating specified in the xmp sidecar digiKam does show it. But it ignores the tags (keywords)... I just found out that digikam 5.8.0 creates sidecars named filename.xmp vs. digikam 5.0.0 that was naming them filename.ext.xmp Can this behavior be reversed? Best regards, On Mon, Jan 29, 2018 at 8:58 AM, Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]> wrote:

Actually no, I am not sure why digikam created an extra filename.xmp for a file that had filename.ext.xmp but I cannot reproduce it now. Anyways, looks like "Reread metadata from Image" simply trying to read metadata embedded in the file and ignores the sidecar. Cannot load metadata from file (Error # 11 : /mnt/data/FamilyPictures/2015/2015-12-25/20151225_071652.mp4: The file contains data of an unknown image type I think this can be improved. There should be a way to set priority between 1.database 2.embedded metadata 3.sidecar for each file type (1. jpegs, 2. raw images, 3. video files) when user re-reading metadata. Having a separate option "Reread metadata from sidecar" might help too. Best regards, On Mon, Jan 29, 2018 at 10:27 AM, Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]> wrote:

The XMP handling for videos has improved in v5.7.0+, but from my testing it is still not reading in some metadata such as captions and tags. This has been reported: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375570 On 30 January 2018 at 04:58, Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]> wrote:

Thank you Menu. I did see ratings being shown for some video in my collection however when I did a test on a clean database it did not show up. Take a look at the very end of the second video I uploaded on YouTube. Is there another way to read from sidecars ? I tried menu - item - reread metadata from image Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. -------- Original message -------- From: meku <[hidden email]> Date: 2018-01-30 3:26 PM (GMT-07:00) To: digiKam - Home Manage your photographs as a professional with the power of open source <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: Re-read metadata from a sidecar for mp4 The XMP handling for videos has improved in v5.7.0+, but from my testing it is still not reading in some metadata such as captions and tags.
