Re: digiKam 7.0.0-beta3 is released

James Orr-3
I haven't been confused before with digiKam updates. This one confuses me. I'm not sure what to download.

I saw something like: digiKam-7.0.0-beta3-20200422T165716-Win64-debug.exe
then something else like: digiKam-7.0.0-rc-20200426T135902-Win64.exe
and there were other windows choices. Microsoft complained about the two files just listed, and I had to positively keep them. Similarly, when running them to install, I had to force acceptance.

I sincerely wish each of you, your family, friends, contacts, community the best of health in these times of pestilence and disease. There is no foreseeable end to proximity-distancing, and with that a concomitant need for social glue.

I think the "debug" one has debug signals which make the installation larger but allows for generating useful bug reports for digiKam developers.

Since it is 7.0.0-beta3 we are talking about I would stick with the version with debug symbols unless you have very limited space on your drive.

Re: digiKam 7.0.0-beta3 is released

James Orr-3
Thanks for the clarification. The README file was useful.
I noted that the link on the announcement page sent me to https://download.kde.org/unstable/digikam/
I saw the the link to the README file went to http://www-ftp.lip6.fr/pub/X11/kde-applicationdata/digikam/
I did not see the README file on the link to download.kde.org ...
In the ftp link, I did see the digiKam-7.0.0-rc-20200501T123827-Win64.exe file name, which is what I was accustomed to. This was much clearer to me

I successfully downloaded the 7.0.0-rc file and successfully installed it. Microsoft complained about an unsigned, rarely installed file. I brute-forced permissions to continue. The installation went well and the program is now running. I admit to wishing for the tag that said Beta3, though that is a minor inconvenience.

I love using Digikam to manage my collection of digital images. I am greatly impressed by the expertise and dedication of the development team. I hope all of you remain well and happy.
