Hello Gilles,
some time ago I had the problem that I had a huge collection of scanned old/antigue family fotos, scanned in bunches of 4...10 photos scanned at once in on A4 page.
I searched for some software that is able to split these A4 pages into single photos again, but without success. As conclusion I decided to write (or let's better say "hack") a little tool that does that job for me, at least semi-automatically.
Some months ago I finished it and put the source of version 0.2 on sourceforge. The project is named "autosplitimage", see
"http://sf.net/projects/autosplitimage".
The tool has now done good work for me, I now have an album of ~4500 single images, of course managed by digikam ;-) You just have to load a file, double click on the "background" and the rest is done automatically (at least in 99% of the cases which was enough for me).
But as the tool's job was done, I now no longer have urgent need for it and I don't think that I will (or have the time to) spend any further time for maintaining it.
So I wanted to ask you if you are interested in taking the challenge and maybe make a digikam plugin out of it? Maybe that functionality would be of use for other people too?
Please feel free to re-use the code and the algorithms, I put it under GPL-v2 (or newer), and already have ported it to Qt4/KDE4.
happy new year,
Thomas
