Re: Wrong aspect ratio for videos / Maintenance usability

Andreas Mair-2
Hello Gilles,

meanwhile Gentoo put exiv2 0.24 into its portage tree and so I
installed it. This also required libkexiv2 to be rebuilt. digiKam now
displays that it's using exiv2 0.24. DigiKam is still v3.5.0.

So I tried a DB update. But I have problems using it:
1) I wanted to reread metadata from a single directory recursive,
where all my videos are located. But how do I do that?
I selected the directory in the "Process items from" section of the
maintenance window.
But what do I have to set for tags?
I tried with a single tag but then digiKam also updated pictures that
are not located in the directory I've set above. That's not what I
want.

2) Video metadata was not refreshed if the files had an XMP sidecar.

3) Video is still displayed using the wrong aspect ratio even if
digiKam now reports the correct aspect ratio of "16:9", width=1024 and
height=756.

Any ideas?

Best regards,
Andreas

thanks for that hint. I didn't know that.

I don't think that it works as expected or at least not as I expect
it. Or I simply don't get it right.
a) If I set a folder (=album) *and* a tag then the maintenance tool
uses every file it finds in that album. I expected that only files
tagged with the given tag are processed.
b) If I set "any albums" and a single tag I expect that all files that
are tagged with that tag are processed. But they aren't.
Also tried using DK4.0.

By displayed, you want mean preview using embeded video player ?

If yes, preview is delegate to KDE phonon component which use backend
in background to play video content (as GStreamer for ex).

Phonon is just a software component that we use in digiKam. There is
no phonon code in digiKam. We embeded widget, and pass video file url
when it's need (+ some control feedback). That all.

Yes, I mean displaying using the embedded video player. I'll try an
external phonon based video player, maybe DragonPlayer?
I have no idea which one is suitable as I prefer using mplayer or vlc.

Re: Wrong aspect ratio for videos / Maintenance usability

Andreas Mair-2
Hi Gilles,

I've now tried DragonPlayer and by default it doesn't detect the
correct aspect ratio, but one can change it to 16:9.
After that I changed the phonon backend from gstreamer to vlc and now
videos (16:9 aspect ratio) are displayed correctly in digiKam.

So the problem might be Phonon and/or Gstreamer related. I tried
playing the video directly by calling "gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=///video.mp4" and the video was displayed correctly.

But that's too much gstreamer for me (and this list) so this thread
can be closed...

Best regards,
Andreas
