on my laptop (win7 MSVC2008), and all is fine. It run as expected, with KDELibs bugs of course. If somebody feel to be a digiKam contributor, not as developer, but as windows packager, i can guide him in this task. I'm developer, not packager. I cannot do all... Gilles Caulier" I think we well understand your position, Giles! And appreciative for what you've done. When you first posted how to compile in Windows I was really excited............then I started reading, ohmigod! I saw each step as yet another one that would fail for me, so I never tried it. I know my luck with computers. Perhaps you'll release that 2.0? Paul,
Instead to release it myself, i would to share how to setup a computer, to compile, and packaging it. Like this, i will not need to do it myself in the future. My time is mimited. using my computer under windows, is a waste of time for me... I'm working under linux (:=))) If you is ready for this experience, i can guide you, by e-mail... Let's me hear. Only one things seems not to run: the face recognition. When I switch over to "people"-area, I get this Error-Message: "OpenCV library Haar Cascade data files are not installed on your system. These files needs to be available to run face detection and recognition properly. Please check your OpenCV library installation..." When I look unter the path "c:\Programme (x86)\digiKam\KDE4-MSVC\bin\", I see such files as "opencv-haartraining.exe" etc, so I would think, the files needed are in place. Or am I going wrong? Ok, I will take a look. I probably miss to install opencv XML data files...

Installed 2.0.0 -beta6 an XP sp3 machine. All seems fine --- except no
thumbnails. Also not thumbnail database as far as I can see. There is a Digidam database - has not extension. When I ask it to rebuild the thumbnails I see a temp "virtual" file being created which then comes an goes but nothing remains after the process is completed. What did I do wrong? 1.7.0 worked fine on Windows and 1.9 seems to work well on Linux Mint. Thanks for any suggestions. Ok, i found the problem and fixed it on my Win7.
ReallyOpenCV is very complex to compile and install. In cmake files, OpenCV team have disabled haarcascade xml file installation under Windows... Why. I actived it and now files are installed...

HaarCascades files from OpenCV required by libface, are now included into libkface. This fix a lots of problem due of non installation of these files by OpenCV. This include Linux, mac, and Windows.
This library is really a big mess...
I just tested face detection under windows. Now it's work fine. These fixes will be included in next 2.0.0 rc Gilles Caulier

If I fail to build from git, will downloading a tarball make any difference? Or will I likely got stuck as well? Rinus Op 28-06-11 22:22, Gilles Caulier schreef: 2.0.0 RC is just released. http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download/tarball?q=download/dependencies is this said: If you are using a distribution based on apt-get (Ubuntu, debian, ...), an easy way to install the dependencies is to use the commands: sudo apt-get build-dep digikam sudo apt-get build-dep kipi-plugins but It does not work!
