Hello everyone,
I'm new to digikam and saw this thread about offline collections. Has anyone figured out a way to make this work? I'd like to keep thumbnails (large if possible) on my laptop and the full resolution files on an external drive that is sometimes connected but often not. I'd like the thumbnails and organizing tools always available for all images. Any ideas? I half expected this function to work since the database is local. I just thought I would double-click on a thumbnail of a remote photo and get an error, but still be able to add tags, etc. thank you in advance, -david _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

In the meantime, take a look at this related feature request: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183170 (Cache remote systems: Disconnected SSH / CD browsing) -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Hi everyone
Dotan, I read your suggestion about Dolphin. Have you found any work-around for using digiKam with offline content? I am not a unix expert, but there should be a way to batch create small (say 600x400) images on a central machine for the whole collection. These could be tagged in digiKam. The tag metadata could be transferred to the original fullsize offline files upon reconnection. I'm wondering if a mirrored file structure and identical file names would make this less cumbersome. Any thoughts? -david _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

The planned behavior is of course that you can access all collections including "offline" ones at any time. Everything should work in the backend but we lack integration in the UI, like showing a hint when someone tries to open an offline image. That's why it is in fact disabled at the moment.
