From what I know, Digikam has been developed with SQLite, and I'm not sure MySQL works so well.
Anyway, I don't understand very well why you need Digikam to look for new images in all your collections. How do you load new pictures? When I put a memory card in the reader, Digikam is automatically launched and asks what/where I want to upload; so almost all the new pictures are loaded straight into Digikam and automatically recognized, and the collections updated. It's not so often I use another way to add pictures, and when I do it, I know where I put them. It is then quite easy to ask Digikam to refresh the corresponding album(s). Marie-Noëlle
