Simply turn off the Network Storage! Duhhhh, it worked. Digikam started up with the welcome screen and asked for a local location for the data files. So I am running again. Permit me to say that I have used a lot of photo management and editing software over the years and frustration with Microsoft and Abobe software registration restrictions impelled me to have a look at alternatives. I was not initially comfortable with giving up applications with which I was so familiar but after a few weeks playing with various Linux photo applications I believe I can do almost everything I was doing with Windows apps and some things appear to be even better. I expect that the new Digikam will be everything I could want when supplimented by GIMP. Thanks to all the developers. I will follow its progress with great interest and may be able to contribute as I become more familiar and comfortable with the application. Otherwise removing the configuration file ~/.kde/share/config/digikamrc should have worked as well. > So I am running again. (Gilles, shouldn't we add a testimonials web page for Digikam, where we collect this type of great advertisement? ;-) Surely there are still many things missing from digikam, but yes, one can do quite a bit with it ... > I expect that the new Digikam will be everything I could want when supplimented > by GIMP. You may also have a look at krita, because it can do editing in 16 Bit (which digikam does as well, but krita supports layers and such ....) > Thanks to all the developers. Contributions of all kinds are always very welcome, in particular experience with other software helps a lot to gain good ideas for future improvements to digikam. Usually the procedure is that after a question/discussion on this mailing list ("How can I do ... with digikam?") you get pointed to an existing wish in the bug-tracker (See the link at http://www.digikam.org/?q=support under "Reporting bugs and wishes") or you are asked to open a new wish there (so that ideas don't get forgotten, in contrast to mails here) Best wishes, Arnd _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
