Thanks for that information Gilles.  I have no problem waiting for the next
version and perhaps I can work around the problem now that I know what causes it.

However, my immediate problem is 'How can I get Digikam to run again?'  As
mentioned previously, I tried deleting Digikam, and all the "digikam" files I
could find, then re-installing it but the new installation would not open using
the digikam defaults. It still wanted to get files from the NAS. Obviously there
is a legacy file somewhere that is causing digikam to go off and attempt to
search the NAS.

Do you know how I can restore Digikam to its defaults so I can use it on local
files on by Ubuntu box?

Sorry to be such a pest.
