Re: Digikam-users Digest, Vol 136, Issue 1

Chris Elverson
Thanks for the suggestions.  It was harder than I expected, but I successfully convinced OS X that Thunderbird is now my default mail client.  Unfortunately, that has not improved the export situation from digiKam.  Gilles, I am using digiKam version 5.1.0.  You mentioned that in version 5.x, digiKam uses the mailto URL to launch the email client.  If that is the case, then I'm very confused why mine will not work.  And if this is true, why does digiKam still let you pick which mail app to use from the Export dialog (and not just rely on the default mail app)?  Prior to setting Thunderbird as the default, my default client was Gmail (via the web).  This was done by registering Chrome as the default mail program and within Chrome it is set to launch Gmail for a mailto link.  I feel like if I am selecting Thunderbird from within digiKam, then it shouldn't matter what the default mail app is.  On a Mac installation, how is digiKam supposed to link up with Thunderbird?  Can I access the underlying KDE settings that digiKam is running on with a Mac installation?

Other suggestions?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

I am pretty sure this is not a digiKam issue, but I hope you can help me
anyway:
When I open windows like configuration, import, ... these are very
small, like completely unusable. I have to resize them every time. I am
on debian and use xfce as DE. Might there be any leftover KDE thing that
I should tweak? Anything else?

Cheers,
Simon

Hi all, I recently switched from Picasa to digiKam and am loving it so far.
I am having one issue, however. When I use the option Export > Email
Images... > Select Thunderbird and click Send, I get the following error
message: "Failed to start Thunderbird program. Check your system."

I am using the following software versions:
digiKam 5.1.0 using KDE 5.24.0
Mac OS X 10.11.6
Thunderbird 45.3.0

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chris

In my experience you need Thunderbird to be the default mail program and
not just set in Thunderbird but make sure that it is set as default in
KDE as well. As I dont use Mac I dont know how you would check that,
however in Linux KDE SystemSettings5 has an toption to set default programs.

Oh, you use OSX... Interresting.

Which digiKam version exactly ? In 5.x we use mailto::/ url to handle
default mail agent set in OSX (not KDE).
