Hi Simon and Lutz
Thanks a lot for your response. I have followed your advices. So I have changed the names . " photos à classer" was changed into "brutsdeshooting" and "Photothèque-01" into "fototekone". Then I have connected the removable media ( formatted for Mac OS X extended) and I waited a lot of minutes for the opening Digikam but the two collections were already visible in the left panel. Then I quit Digikam and disconnect the external hard disc. When I restart Digikam (removable disc disconnected):
Now I connect the removable disc the collection fototekone is
not immediatly visible : I must wait a lot of minutes. In Screenshot-03 note the leading space for "photos a classer". It differs to "Phototheque-01". You also use characters with diacritic marks. It is hard sometimes to verify whether all programs, databases, OS understand and accept these characters. Personally I don't use "-" either. I have had problems in the past with various programs not working properly because '-" was in path. Substitute "_" if a spacer is required. This may not be the issue but it is worth a try to sanitise your names. Only use a-z A-Z 0-9 for paths and album names. See if this works. No "~!@$%^&*(){}?<>", spaces or characters with diacritic marks. Best of luck. Cheers Simon Hi Philippe, As Simon already stated it could be a problem with the names of the volumes. What kind of file system does the remove media has? That could be the cause of the trouble, so try to use simple naming and avoid any diacritic characters. And I see your collection " Photos à Classer" has a space character in front. I would avoid that too. In the Preferences I set the place of the Digikam Data Base on the hard disk of my computer (Screenshot 01). Then I added as Local Collection an Album located on my computer in the Folder "Pictures " and called "Photos à Classer " Then I added a new collection (called Photothèque 01) located on a removable (external) hard disc. At this moment appeared the message shown in the screenshot 02 (very hard to understand the meaning ???) I clicked OK twice to close the Collections window of the Preferences. All the Album of the removable media was imported very well.(Screenshot 03) Then I quit Digikam and disconnect the removable disc Now when I re-open Digikam : * with the external disc disconnected : o The Album " Photothèque 01" of the removable média doesn't appear (Screenshot-04) and in the Preferences I can see that the Collection "Photothèque" has moved in the Local Collection.(Screenshot 04) o if I connect at this moment the external disc the the Album "Photothèque-01 doesn't mount". * with the external disc connected, the catalog appears quickly but I must wait minutes to obtain the thumbnails ??? I don't know if something is wrong in my settings or if it's an issue of the program. Thanks for the help. Chears. Hi Philippe
I am not sure what you mean by "but the two collections were already visible in the left panel". I can only presume that your installation has remembered your collection/drives. Try copying all your albums to a backup directory, including any configuration files you can find. Create a new directory on your hard disk and only copy the images to that directory. You don't need large quantities just enough to test. Do the same on your external hard disk. Open digikam. It should appear as if installed for the first time -- i.e. empty. If you have images present or any of your old settings, remove the setting/configuration/database files. Point this new install to the **new albums**; one on your local drive and the other to your removable media. If it still does not work try an alternative external device (USB pin, CD). See what happens. With the USB try various disk formats recognisable by Mac. Maybe it something to do with your external drive format. Doing all this... - can you see and read your local drive? - can you see and read your external drive? - do you have the same symptoms outlined in the original post?
