RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

ozzyprv

Is it normal in 2.0.0.4 that my RAW files (.DNG) disappear from the folder after running a batch operation to convert them to .JPG?

I am using the "Convert to JPEG" tool at the "Convert" menu within the Batch Queue Manager. I think I remember doing this before and the RAW file stayed where it was.

I use the words gone and disappear because I refuse to accept that the RAW files was deleted

Thanks.

No. Excepted if you turn on the right option in Batch Process Image dialog.

Open album in dolphin and look if files have been removed

I recommend to convert DNG to RAW convert where more demosaicing
options are available.

Hi Gilles,

The files are there in dolphin, files haven't been removed, but doesn't show in the DK album. Do you know why?

Thanks.

Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

ozzyprv

It is happening again.

Sequence of events (hopefully somebody can provide help).

1. I select few .dng files (using/holding Ctrl and clicking on images - thumbnails).
2. I use the shortcut to send selected files to batch queue manager (press "b").
3. In batch queue manager, I select the Base Tools tab, then Covert>Convert to JEPG
3. In batch queue manager, I select Target tab, then I click on the folder I want to send the .JEPG files to
4. In batch queue manager I click on "Run".

Then, when I go back to main DK windown, to the album where the selected .dng files were...they are gone. No thumbnail, nothing.
As I mention before, I checked with a file manager and the files are in the corresponding folder. They are the real files, I check ed opening them with a viewer.
It is just like, for some reason, the DK DB thinks they are gone.....WHY?

Can I some how rebuild the DB?

Thanks.

Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

Rinus
In reply to this post by ozzyprv
Hi Ozzy and the others,

The same happens to me with pentax rawfiles (PEF). I tried to find a work around but no good luck so far. Moving the folder (not showing the raw files) to trash.  Quiting digikam, restoring the files from trash, relaunch DK going to ¨Tools->scan for new images¨ will bring back some of the rawfiles but not ALL. Please backup before trying.

If dng´s are in the folder DK crashes trying to convert to jpeg.

Looks a very serious problem! We have to find a workaround for now and share the information we find.

Not reproducible.

I processed 3 ARW files like this in BQM. No problem.
I tried to generate JPEG files in same ARW album, or in a new album.
ARW files still there...

Can you run digiKam from a console, with previously enable debug space
of digiKam using kdebugdialog. Look traces on the console when you
reproduce this workflow.

Goodmornig Gilles,

I did what you asked, but I can not select or copy the output in
console. It is about 20.000 signs. How do we communicate this? Where are
you specificly after.

open console (terminal window) somewhere in the menu. type ¨kdebugdialog>enter¨ scrol down to digikam, check it, click ¨Apply¨ and ¨ok¨
Now type ¨digikam->enter¨.
Digikam starts, perform a convert action, open your console and look whatś there.
Done!

This is interesting!

Not a happy end but might point to a clou!

I decided to do an update. Update manager. Ubuntu updates, I checked
under Updates, Ubuntu Updates all 4 options. Got a very huge update, saw
some sqlite stuf coming by. After it was done, I started DK and
miraculously there were all the formerly disappeared PEFś.

BUT ALAS!: After converting them again they were gone again.

Hi Ozzy and Gilles,
Go to ¨Settings->Configure Digikam->Editing Images->In Main View¨ check ¨Always show original images¨ click ok.
Do your conversion and all Raw and Jpg will be shown side by side.

Please let me know if this worked for you too Ozzy. I expect this problem will keep showing up here, so it is important info.

Problems are just there to be solved.

Re: Ozzyś problem solved!!!!!!!!! Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

ozzyprv

Hi Rinus, Gilles and rest of the digiKam-ers out there,

Yes, It worked.
I did what you said and all the RAW (.dng and .cr2) files came back in view.
I then tried again converting a .dng into .jpg, converted and I see both files side by side.

Problems are there to be solved, I like that.

Is this a bug then? Should that options be checked by default?

Thank you!

@ Rinus, too bad it happened to you too. But it kind of make me feel better. I thought I was making some serious mistakes with my workflow.

Thanks.

Re: Ozzyś problem solved!!!!!!!!! Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

Rinus
Wonderfull! I suppose it is not a bug. I think too that it should be checked by default, but there might be a good reason wich I know nothing about why it is not.

Thank you!

Re: Ozzyś problem solved!!!!!!!!! Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

ozzyprv

But Gilles could not reproduce the problem when converting his RAW files to JPG.
It happens with Canon CR2, with DNG and with Pentax RAW files (I forgot the extension).

Re: Ozzyś problem solved!!!!!!!!! Re: RAW file gone after conversion to jpeg

Rinus
I suppose he could not reproduce because he had already that option checked, and did of cource not know that you and me had not. The fact that it not happened to him meant probably to him that it was not a bug probably meaning that it is not his problem, he must be awfully buzy.
