Hi users of my Ubuntu PPA with Digikam Digikam 5 final is soon to be released and I wonder how you guys want the final update to be. Do you guys want the Digikam 5 final to update the older (not longer supported with updates and fixes) Digikam 4 packages to version 5? Or do you guys want the digikam 4 series remain and digikam 5 versions to be separate packages and installations as Digikam 5 on your Ubuntu system as they have been during beta testing on my PPA so you can have both versions installed at the same time? https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/ubuntu/extra _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
My humble proposal is to mantain both for a reasonable time. If the first choice will be made however it could be nice to have instructions on how to avoid some problems (if any) on systems that currently have both Digikam 4 and Digikam beta installed working harmoniously up until now. I am not able to envisage what could happen if (when) Digikam 4 will be updated to 5 on systems around. And always thanks Antonio Il giorno dom 3 lug 2016 alle ore 15:06 Philip Johnsson <[hidden email]> ha scritto:

The identified problem is this one : Typically, KDE API do not backport old settings from application installed in older place to new one. We need to do it manually in application (not yet coded) In fact nothing is lost as the report title said. The previous settings is just ignored and all settings is created from scratch.. Just copying the list of settings files as well fix simply the problem. Gilles Caulier 2016-07-03 16:03 GMT+02:00 Antonio Trincone <[hidden email]>:

Hi Philip, i have the 5 bata 7 beside 4.14 and have startet to only use 5. For me it would be best to simply continue from 5 beta 7 to 5 final by the update from the 5 . I will not longer use 4.14. I want to seamlessly continue with 5. Best regards On 3 Jul 2016 15:06, "Philip Johnsson" <[hidden email]> wrote:

Then I understand it as you guys want digikam 4 and digikam 5 packages as they are during the beta testing phase on my PPA so you can continue to use both until you upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10 (yakkety) that most likely will be the first Ubuntu release that will come with official Digikam 5 packages? Both digkam 4.14 and digikam 5.x will be able to be used on the same system. In that case I just update the digikam5 kipi-plugins5 and showfoto5 packages to 5.0 final when it's released as the betas have been updated before. On Sun, Jul 3, 2016 at 7:45 PM, CD.Graesser <[hidden email]> wrote:

Philip, is your PPA for Digikam 5 compatible with Linux Mint 17.3? I
use it for version 4 but it's not installing version 5 for me. If linux mint 17.3 is based on ubuntu 15.10 or 16.04 then the PPA should work for you. If Linux Mint 17.3 is a LTS release then PPAs and their packages might be held back on your system as they would be considered an unstable source repository. In that case you have to override the PID priority code of the PPA in your apt source settings for my PPA (I think you will have a pid priotity of 500 for the PPA that you need to change or allow localy on your system). Ubuntu doesn't use PID priority for repository sources so ask on a Linux Mint or maybe Debian forum or channel how to do that if you can't google it. Digikam 5 final for Ubuntu 16.10 is build on my PPA as I write this. I will upload Digikam 5 final for Ubuntu 15.10 tomorrow. For the moment I have Digikam 5 beta 7 packages for Ubuntu 15.10 on the PPA.On Wed, Jul 6, 2016 at 3:27 AM, Kim <[hidden email]> wrote: Philip, is your PPA for Digikam 5 compatible with Linux Mint 17.3? Also. On my PPA Digikam 4.14 and Digkam 5.0 is different set of packages and can be installed and used on the same system (not recommended to have them running at the exact same time in the same database as it might end up in some odd things). Digikam 4.14 packages are named: digikam, kipi-plugins and showfotoOn Wed, Jul 6, 2016 at 3:43 AM, Philip Johnsson <[hidden email]> wrote:

Ok thanks, Linux Mint 17.3 is built on Ubuntu 14.04 so that must be why
it's not installing for me. I do have a force version option in my settings but it only shows different versions of Digikam 4. I have just installed Mint 18 on a VB and with Philips wonderful PPA's
it installs DK 5. I understand there will be upgrade instructions to get from Mint 17 to 18 released later this month, so I am waiting for that for my main system. Now that digikam 5 has been released I thought I'd remove digikam 4, but when I try to remove digikam-data it removes digikam5-data too. -- Registered Linux User #466407 http://counter.li.org _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Yes that's how I needed to do with the common files shared, like some icons, that both digikam 4 and 5 both are using. Otherwise there would be package content conflicts. That's the downside to have it setup so both versions can coexist on the same system. /Philip On Jul 6, 2016 23:06, "Mark Fraser" <[hidden email]> wrote:
