Question regarding upcoming 0.9.1 release

Oliver Dörr
Hi,

just a short question regarding the 0.9.1 release. Are there any plans
to release also the manuals? If so, when is  the string freeze for the
manuals planned?

Yes, there are so many changes to digiKam that we need to release the manuals,
even if the last things has not been discribed yet.

I plan to work on it until Tuesday night, 27th and than freeze it. The i18n
team is informed.

Gerhard

That leaves 5 days for translation and proof readiung. I'm not sure if we could deliver german manuals on time. We will see.

Dear Oliver and other translators.
I just commited digikam.docbook to svn. I hope it's not too late for you poor
translators who always come in last...
I really worked hard to get it out the door... and it's not perfect. I believe
if you need a few more days than the 0.9.1 final release, that will be
alright, the packagers need their time too (except Achim).

Hi Gerhard,

i have still 200 strings open. So i don't think that i could deliver a
translation this weekend. What's about the idea that the handbooks will
be release one week later? They could also be packaed seperately

Gilles Caulier-4
Since the handbook is a separate tarball, it's not technically a problem. But this way depand also how Achim and Angelo will plan to package hanbook for kubuntu and mandriva.

You have added by hand the desktop file content with the translated strings. If i remember, this is not the right way to do it.
There is a script witch extract the desktop file strings and put it in a .po file for translators. When the translation is done, the .po file is updated in svn and another script do the inverse job to add the translations strings in the desktop files.

Using this way, the UTF8 encoding of translated string is respected, witch cannot be done easily to edit by hand... Also the translation job of desktop files is the same than GUI/DOC translations.

If you look in French i18n svn area, you can see :

<a onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)" href="http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n/fr/messages/extragear-graphics/" target="_blank">http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n/fr/messages/extragear-graphics/

...you can seen some desktop_extragear_.... po files, for digikamimageplugins for example, but not for digikam !

...this is why the desktop files translations in French (and certainly in German) do not exist. I suspect than nobody work on digikam desktop translation po file.

Here, you can see the template translation file (pot) for digikam desktop :

this is the file to translate and to rename in .po file before to commit in translation folder...

Of course, this job do not be done directly by digiKam team. Translations team must be contacted for that.

Friendly

Gilles
