Hello,
recently i purchased a new printer, a HP 2605 DN (with 192MB RAM). It has PCL6
and the way HP calls it a "Postscript 3 emulation". I installed it using cups
(and HPLIP) as a regular Postscript printer. Basically this printer works
fine.
A problem seems to be printing photos from digikam as well as from gwenview
(KDE3). If I try to print a 10Mpix photo from digikams imageeditor in
landscape to a A4 page, so the photo will finally cover most of this A4 page,
then the printer starts, saying "processing print job" but even after a
complete *hour* there is no output and the print is still saying its
processing the printjob. The cups spoolfile has a size of 27Mbytes in this
case.
The strange thing is, if I print from gwenview's KDE4 version or if I print
from gimp using the same output settings the spoolfile is only about 4Mbytes
and printing works just fine. After say 1 minute the print is finnished.
The large spoolfile generated by digikam is basically OK I can look at it
using ghostview, however even ghostview will show only "line" after line of
this photo on the screen and my system (P4 3 GHz) goes to 100% CPU load for
the next 2 minutes. So it seems the postscript generated is very complicated
in contrast to the postscript generated by gwenview (KDE4).
Because I am still using KDE3 I would like ask if anybody knows a way to work
around this problem so I can print directly from digikam.
Thanks for hints
Rainer
