Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Stefan Schuster

I have a problem while deleting albums / directories (Windows 10 / 64bit). I can delete images without any problem – but when I delete an album (right click -> „delete album“) nothing happens. The album is still visible in the album-list – and it still exists in the filesystem. (But I can‘t access the folder).

After closing „digiKam“ the directory vanishes without any further action. I think there is a „lock-problem“ or something like that…

Second problem is with videos. There is no thumbnail / preview and I can’t play videos (Message: „An error has occured with the media player…)

Any ideas?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards

Stefan Schuster

Please report this problem in bugzilla.

yes. It's normal. Did you look the README html page while installing. It's explained.

1.       I just submitted a bug report.

2.       My fault – I installed the KLite packet and now digiKam can play videos.

Thanks.

Can you please point me at where I can read up on this as I have been
unable to find a README with my installation in openSUSE, is there
somewhere I can view it online?

The "readme" is "releasenotes.html" file stored where digiKam is installed.

It's here in git repository :

Thanks... however I should have pointed out that I am running openSUSE
and have the issue of not being able to see thumbnails for video .MOV
files or indeed play them. The reference in the release notes seem to
imply it is a MAC issue.

Is there a work round for Linux?

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Gilles Caulier-4
Ah for Linux, this is not a problem.

Internally, we use Qt5Multimedia to render video thumbs and preview. Under Linux, Qt5Multimedia use GStreamer backend. You must install gstreamer packages ("good", "bad",and "ugly" codecs).

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Gilles Caulier-4
MOV codec is missing on your computer (GStreamer)

MOV will certainly require patented codecs. Here under MAgeia5, GStreamer has non free codec packages

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Gilles Caulier-4
yes sure, it's different.

DK 4 use KDE4::Phonon.

In goal to reduce KDE dependencies in DK,

DK 5 use Qt5Multimedia.

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Stuart T Rogers
In reply to this post by Stuart T Rogers
Apparently the dependencies for digikam dont show QT5Multimedia or
gstreamer and I have discovered this from an openSUSE forum member

"We do build it with libqt5-qtmultimedia-devel, but I just noticed that
QT5Multimedia support is turned *OFF* by default and has to be enabled
specifically.
Unfortunately this is not even mentioned in the build log (which
displays a list of all features and whether they are enabled or not),
that's probably why this slipped through.

I will see if we can enable it, but it may take a few days until a new
package is in the repo."

Hopefully this will solve my issue once the fix is available and will
solve the problem for any other openSUSE users who may see it as well.

Stuart

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Gilles Caulier-4
Pass the word. The complete DK dependencies list is here :

Apparently the dependencies for digikam dont show QT5Multimedia or gstreamer and I have discovered this from an openSUSE forum member

"We do build it with libqt5-qtmultimedia-devel, but I just noticed that QT5Multimedia support is turned *OFF* by default and has to be enabled specifically.
Unfortunately this is not even mentioned in the build log (which displays a list of all features and whether they are enabled or not), that's probably why this slipped through.

I will see if we can enable it, but it may take a few days until a new package is in the repo."

Hopefully this will solve my issue once the fix is available and will solve the problem for any other openSUSE users who may see it as well.

Is there something different between digikam 4 and 5 as digikam 4.14 on
this same PC worked perfectly and displayed the video thumbnails just fine.

Re: Problem deleting albums / Problem videos

Stuart T Rogers
Well having sorted the QT5Multimedia issue in openSUSE their new compile
does indeed show the thumbnail image OK, however when you select the
image by double click instead of it opening in the preview window it
appears with all the thumbnails in the album in the preview window and
you can hear the audio playing but the video cannot be seen just in this
case 6 static thumbnails where the preview should be. Returning to
thumbnail display and selecting a normal (non-video) image it displays
as it should in the preview area.

Now I thought what used to happen was the video would play in the
preview area. Am I right or am I dreaming?
