Problem 1.2 with digikam not starting

Stuart T Rogers
I am trying to run digikam 1.2 on Mandriva 2010.0 with kipi plugins 1.3
and it fails after the splash screen just when it is trying to load
plugins with

digikam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/kipiplugin_ipodexport.so:
undefined symbol: _ZN6KDebug13hasNullOutputE9QtMsgTypebib

I have tried deleting digikamrc but still get the same error. It used to
work with 1.1 of plugins but for some reason I cant go back now as 1.2
seems to require 1.3 of the plugins.

Anyone any ideas please? What else can I try to sort this?

Stuart

There must be a serious problem with your installation. Digikam seems to
be built against a different kde version as the one you are using now.

Yes of course, but every minor change to the kde libraries can change
their programming interface which then results in such an error if
digikam isn't rebuilt.

Are you using the mandriva provided packages? If so, please try to
completely remove and reinstall them.

Todd Goodman
It's not an issue having kipi plugins version 1.3 and digikam version
1.2?

Well I am using Mandriva packages and I have removed and re-installed
them and still have the problem.

This looks like a packaging problem to me. Please ask the Mandriva
packagers of digikam.

No, should not be a problem as the interface from digikam to
kipi-plugins is libkipi. As long as both conform to the interface,
everything is fine.

Nevertheless, the problem is definitely unrelated to kipi. It is related
to the packaging of kipi-plugins and / or digikam.

Johannes

Re: Problem 1.2 with digikam not starting

Gilles Caulier-4
I use Mandriva 2010 too. No problem there. Of course, i recompile all
myself, as i'm developer.

It's a packaging problem. Binary compatibility is not respected
somewhere. Try to contact Nicolas Lecureuil <neoclust at mandriva dot
org>, he maintain all KDE4 and digiKam packages.
