Good Morning,
I'm using digikam for several years now. Usually from the debian archives. The problem is that it regularly happens that digikam just does not work anymore for several weeks, which is kind of unpleaseant if you really need it (I think you can imagine that). For example, I cannot use digikam from the debian repos anymore since about half a year now because of a bug in exiv2 which has been fixed already a long time ago[1]. Now I somehow managed to crap my system that way that a compiled digikam worked with also self-compiled libexiv2 and libkexiv2. But other programs like gthumb just crashed when trying to display images with exif information. But at least digikam was working, which was the most important to me. The last dist-upgrade again destroyed this. And I'm again sitting on an unusable debian digikam. (Certainly now as I'd really need to have a working digikam.) Therefore I'm asking here: *How do I correctly compile and install digikam, exiv2 and kdcraw?* (The libraries are not up-to-date in the debian repos.) You guys must be doing that all time ;) I'd appreciate your help very much. Ah, thanks a lot.

I just did apt-get install digikam && apt-get purge digikam just to make
sure the debian digikam is not installed anymore. Still does not work. Debug output attached. Didn't help. I've cleared the .xsession-errors; restarting digikam didn't
cause a new entry. On 16.05.2010 14:23, Johannes Wienke wrote: > Am 16.05.2010 14:19 schrieb Simon A. Me again.
I just don't know anymore what to do. I reinstalled my sidux on the PC. The same 64bit system as on the laptop now. Re-compiled digikam. And it does _not_ work. It does scan for images when starting (took some minutes), but does not display any of them. I've kept my /home. But this should not matter, right? Also have I deleted all old digikam configuration files (digikamrc in ~/.kde-svn and the database in the location I've specified). By the way, @Jens, I was mistaken about lib64: drwxr-xr-x 147 root root 90112 21. Mai 20:00 lib drwxr-xr-x 28 root root 20480 21. Mai 19:45 lib32 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 31. Dez 04:12 lib64 -> lib It does indeed exist. But unfortunately does not solve my problem. :( Any idea what I could do? Simon On 16.05.2010 14:34, Simon A. Eugster wrote: > Didn't help. Ah wow. Wtf. Now this completely does not make any sense.
At least not for me. I solved the problem. By doing: > # apt-get install digikam > Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig > Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut > Status-Informationen einlesen... After removing digikam again, _without_ libkdcraw8, again the same problem. No pictures at all. Installed digikam again, everything fine. It is even using the exiv2 libraries I compiled myself. Could anyone enlighten me what exactly is going on there? thanks in advance, Simon On 21.05.2010 20:25, Simon A.
