P: digikam error under 'project neon'

Not too happy with the current kde4 release, I installed the next kde's nightly
builds 'project neon' under kubuntu 8.10

While all the normal applications including digikam 9.3 from the repositories
work fine, digikam 10 from svn - which works under standard kde4 version -
starts but does not show any thumbnails. In the terminal window klauncher gives
the ominous message: Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'.

kbuildsycoca did not bring any change, and I am running out of ideas.

Any hints how to resolve this?

This problem have been alreday reproted here : digiKam kioslave are not intalled at the right place (into KDE4 install dir subfolder)

This is always the same with kubuntu, I don't know what is going wrong there
all the time.
Kubuntu seems to set strange env variables and so digiKam is not able to find
its kioslaves.
We had this so many times here, maybe Arnd or other Kubuntu users have tipps?
