One collection has disappeared from albums list

tosca
Hi to everybody,

I had a bad surprise today when opening Digikam: one of my external drive doesn't show in the albums list, though it still appears in the collections list. And it is mounted and regularly accessible via the files manager. Re-launch Digikam and even reboot the system make no change.

Screencopy here shows the albums list and the collections configuration window: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wtmzfd4mu5izgfk/20171112_S%C3%A9lection_001.png?dl=0
I'm running 5.6.0 version on a Fedora 26 system.

Any idea what could have gone wrong, and how to solve the issue?

Thanks for helping,
Marie-Noëlle

Just as a guess:
That external drive is an USB drive, and shows up on a different device number
after reboot?
If that's the case, the identifier might have changed, so Digikam doesn't
recognise it as the drive linked under that collection. Collections are a
Digikam notion, and stored in its database/configuration, so won't be affected.

Again, this is just a (more of less educated) guess.

How many files are in the collection? Did you edit the files in digikam yesterday ?
It might be the good ol' versioning checkbox

How many files are in the collection?

Thousands, in a whole folders tree.

Did you edit the files in digikam yesterday ?

I haven't had used Digikam for several weeks.

It might be the good ol' versioning checkbox

On tons of folders and images? And could it prevent the whole device to appear in the albums list?

In your case versioning is probably not the case.

Thanks for the idea.
It has worked like a charm for ages, and I never had to change any device number.

If that's the case, how can I check it, then solve the issue?

Sorry, I'm wrong here: I actually used Digikam yesterday to generate a couple of JPGs with the batch tool manager for publishing on line. But I didn't do any edit, nor access the device in question, and I didn't see whether it appears in the albums list or not.

Is the always show original box checked ?

https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragear-graphics/digikam/using-setup.html#using-setup-editor

If not try to check it and restart digikam

Checked and restarted just now, but it didn't change anything.
And this particular HDD (work drive) serves only to import the pictures from the cards, and rate them. They are then moved to another drive (archive drive) before any editing takes place.
So there is no edited picture in this 'missing' drive; only pictures waiting for either selection or deletion.

Is the collection still mounted at the same place? I.e. is it accessible at the same path as given in your digikam configuration?

Yes, it is.
And anyway Digikam shows another external collection "SD Card Imports" though the drive is not even mounted (I have 3 HDD, but only 2 mounted at the same time).

Still have no clue regarding the origin of the problem.
But the maintenance tool seems to have done the trick: searching new elements on the whole collections made reappear those that had gone missing.

Thank you everybody for your answers and advice,
