Hey all,
Brand new to the list and even brander new to my Olympus E-520. I just downloaded Digikam version 0.10.0 to my Ubuntu 9.04 through Synaptic but it doesn't show the E-520 in the list of cameras, even though I do read on the digikam.org site that it has been added. Has Ubuntu just not updated its repository yet? Is there some way I can get a version of Digikam that does include the update? Hey Paul & all,
Yes, I plugged the camera in again and went to places and found it, then Ubuntu loaded up F-Spot and that works okay, although I'm surprised F-Spot can't resize images...?! So I just then open them with gimp and resize there. But I also have a Perl script I wrote that uses ImageMagic under FreeBSD to resize them as well. Still, always loved DigiKam and would much rather be using it. It was great with my old Canon Rebel DSLR. Since you can always download your shots setting the camera in something lika a "USB mass storage" mode or use a memory card reader, I suppose that your problem is with RAW files... Usually vendor RAW formats doesn't change much from one camera model to newer model of the same vendor, so there is an high probability that digikam will be able to work with you camera's RAW files anyway... Just try: shot a raw image and try to work on it using digikam. regards gerlos -- "Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. Hey Gerlos & all,
Digikam will not even find the E-520, that's the problem I'm having. I try auto-detect and it says it can't find it. Mass Storage, other? Can you find any evidence that the camera was seen by 9.04? Such as a message in /var/log/messages ?? _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Hey Bruce,
When I turn the camera on connected to the USB port it pops up on the desktop as a hard drive icon and says 2.0GB Media underneath, which is correct. Doing a tail -f /var/log/messages shows it properly connecting and disconnecting as it's turned on and off, connecting with the last message as Attached SCSI removable disk So it looks like Ubuntu is working just fine with it. As I said, I can use it now with F-Spot or even just the file manager to move images off the camera to the workstation, and then I'm writing some Perl and PHP stuff to do resizing. I just really enjoyed using DigiKam with my old Canon DSLR, but that was a while back and I sure would like to have all those new features to play with the new version offers. Well it sounds to me like everything is working fine - - you just haven't found the method to get digikam to connect with it. In the later versions of digikam, seems getting connections is a little harder to do. Under the import drop down are a bunch of things to try.... and I wouldn't go looking for an E-520 but look for your memory card under the USB storage devices or any of the other categories. Look for your 2GB card or media. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Woo hoo!
Thanks, Bruce, it appeared right under Import -> USB Storage Devices And it even called it E-520. Loaded the pics right up with all the features. Much thanks, feel a bit... "D'oh!"... for not spotting that myself.
