Nokia Partners with Netplus to Expand IPTV and Broadband Services in India

Nokia has teamed up with Netplus to deploy an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service and scale high-speed broadband across Punjab and other cities in India, reaching nearly two million users.

As part of the deployment, Nokia provided 400 Gb/s routing technology and a software-defined access network (SDAN) platform to support Netplus’ broadband and IPTV offerings. Netplus is using Nokia’s 7250 Interconnect Router (IXR) series for broadband aggregation, alongside the 7750 Service Router (SR) to deliver broadband network gateway (BNG) capabilities.

The 7250 IXR series supports multiterabit connectivity and port speeds up to 400GE, with future scalability to 800GE. Meanwhile, the 7750 routers use FP5 routing silicon, which is optimized for high-bandwidth applications such as 5G backhaul and industrial IoT. These routers are energy-efficient and compatible with existing legacy networks.

Netplus’ SDAN rollout also includes Nokia Lightspan optical line terminals (OLT), enabling fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) via GPON and XGS-PON technologies. The network is designed to provide flexible, high-speed broadband for a variety of applications.

Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller will serve as the network automation tool, supporting PON speeds of up to 100 Gb/s. Together with the Altiplano Access Virtualizer, the platform centralizes and virtualizes network functions, allowing programmable and automated fixed-access networks.

Through this partnership, Netplus aims to transition viewers from traditional broadcast TV to interactive IPTV on-demand platforms, while also supporting data-intensive applications like online retail and virtual learning environments.
