New user - needing a (different) photo organiser, so trying digikam for the first time (under Cinnamon not kde on Mint 16).
So, loaded up a few thousand old photos - looked good. Except ... digikam is unable to load nef from my old D70. The jpegs are fine. Went and grabbed a nef from my D7000, and digikam can handle that ok. Loaded the D70 shots under Nikons Capture 4 (an old Windows XP box I'm decommisioning - the source of these shots) and they load (and look) fine. Searching didn't show anything obvious - anyone willing to hazard a guesss at what may be wrong - that I can fix ?. Thanks ... _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Hi,
digiKam use LibRaw decoder to handle RAW files. This include Nikon files of course. http://www.libraw.org First, go to Help/Components Info dialog to see which libraw version you use. Second, look in Help/Raw files support dialog to see if your camera is supported. D70 is a common Nikon camera, and i'm sure to have already tested it in the past. Look my screenshot here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/digikam/13216942894/sizes/o/ To be sure, you can send me a file sample by a private email, to test on my computer. Perhaps NEF file metadata have been corrupted by another 3rd party application. I recollect others have had problems in the past when programs used to tag an image corrupted the NEF metadata making them invisible to digikam -- no thumbnails, nothing. Have you tested photos not opened by any other program, copied from you camera directly to an album that digikam can see? Also it might shed some light if you explain what you mean load? Can you see thumbnails and the editor will not work, or is the file invisible to digikam? If you are happy to share an image, I'll test it on my installation. I am using Ubuntu 13.10, Gnome Classic. I'll report back to the list and delete the image. -- Cheers Simon Simon Cropper - Open Content Creator Free and Open Source Software Workflow Guides ------------------------------------------------------------ Introduction http://www.fossworkflowguides.com GIS Packages http://www.fossworkflowguides.com/gis bash / Python http://www.fossworkflowguides.com/scripting _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Thanks for the replies- been out of range of phone/'net since I posted. The D70 photos were imported from a USB backup hard drive - digikam is ignorant of the nefs; no thumbnail, and as I mentioned the file fails to open. I imagine all of them may have been (at least) looked at using the Nikon software. I doubt there was a lot (any ?) post processing done - but it was a long time ago. The D7000 image for comparison was loaded (sorry, imported ;) directly from the camera. You may be right about the images being mangled - Just installed gimp with ufraw plugin and it also can't handle the D70 nefs. I managed to find a couple of my CF cards, one was empty, the other had only jpegs - I also found the camera and charger, so I'll get a RAW shot or two and see how digikam/gimp handles that. I'll report back. On Monday, 17 March 2014 11:58 PM, Simon Cropper <[hidden email]> wrote:

I'll report back. Empty and empty are not always equal. You could give photorec a try, http://www.cgsecurity.org/ Best regards, Boudewijn _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
O.K., I give up. Took a RAW shot with the D70 after it had recharged over-night. Imported it directly from the camera - no problems. Gimp (ufraw) could also deal with it. Likewise a copy saved to a USB thumb drive from the XP computer after opening in the Nikon software. Thought it may have been PEBKAC as I had mass renamed everything, including the nefs, prior to importing originally in digiKam. Deleted all the files on the disk (including the digikam .db files), and reloaded everything without renaming. Now the nefs from the USB drive show up with icons, and when selected the embedded jpeg is displayed. However when I attempt to use the editor, it still moans and refuses to load it. Likewise gimp, so I'll consider this as dodgy files and close this thread as I have "fine" jpegs of all the shots. Thanks for all the help. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
