Hi my name is Adam and I am new to DigiKam and fairly new to linux,
First I would like to say thank you to the developers of this cool app. I wish I would have heard of it before I bought ACDSEE. My problem today is the application runs very slow. I have about 55000 images. I saw something while searching around about splitting the database up to help speed things up. Do I need to do that? if so, how? Also is there a way to import a list of tags? Delete the current one all at once? Hi,
I am using DigiKam with >91000 photos without any efficiency problem. So the speed issue should not be related to the number of pictures in the database. It may be related to another factor. How many tags ? albums ? albums with thumbnail ? fuzzy search ? advanced search ? do you have ? I remember a mailing list message saying that the number of saved search increase startup time because the search are updated at every startup. Thanx Julien, for the information It was all in one album with child albums (year/month/date) I have made an album for each year and that seems to help a bit. The tags, are being read from the file, throw backs to another attempt at tagging them all. I am trying to delete them all and start over. (I did tag about 10k pix using ACDSee but the tags dont come over, if someone know how to read that info it would make me very happy.) Thats why I want to import a tag list. I had a lot of nestled tags. I would like an easy way to create them all via import or something like that. First I think you should verify that the information is really in your files (using exiftool for instance) and not in ACDSee internal database. If so, I think you should add a wish about that in bugs.kde.org and provide a example picture with tags to test. Julien > Thats why I want to import a tag list. I had a lot of nestled tags. After further review, I see that DigiKam does read the info from the EXIF ( I had thought is proprietary) , but not the side car file that ACDSee creates with raw files. so some of my work is saved, :) From: Julien Narboux <[hidden email]> To: Adam <[hidden email]>; digiKam - Home Manage your photographs as a professional with the power of open source <[hidden email]> Sent: Wed, November 11, 2009 12:41:52 PM Subject: Re: [Digikam-users] Newbie Q's Adam a écrit : > > Thanx Julien, for the information > > It was all in one album with child albums (year/month/date) I have made an album for each year and that seems to help a bit. > > The tags, are being read from the file, throw backs to another attempt at tagging them all. > > I am trying to delete them all and start over. > (I did tag about 10k pix using ACDSee but the tags dont come over, if someone know how to read that info it would make me very happy.)
