That's the major reason that I use Digikam too.

Hello Mitz,

Welcome to the digikam community.

Re Del key
I am not sure why Del isn't working on your Mac. I have never used a Mac computer though. It works on Linux and Windows.

Re plugins
If you are looking for plugins please search for kipi-plugins.

Re Google Photos plugin
I think I have tried the plugin once or twice and it crashed on me so I stopped using it and use web upload instead.
Perhaps Saurabh Patel might help you since he seems to be the one who wrote the plugin.

Re digiKam trash folder
I don't believe you can change that. I think dev team could not figure out how to make digiKam work with system trash on Linux, Windows and Mac and created the internal digiKam trash folder as a workaround to make digiKam a trully cross-platform application.

Re Album section
I don't think it is possible to flatten the album view. You can make the font smaller though. Settings - configure digiKam - Views - Tree views

Best regards,

Hello all,

I have moved from Digikam from Picasa. I'm not an advanced photo editor - I
simply need a powerful photo manager/organizer. I moved to Digikam as it
seems feature packed, fast and most importantly does not create separate
photo databases (like iPhoto) as I have a meticulously organized file
structure I've had for a number of years now and I don't want a program
changing it.

I am using a MacBook Pro 2016 model with MacOS Sierra, Digikam v.5.5.0
installed, KDE Frameworks 5.29.0.

A few questions to help me get started:

- What is the DELETE photo keyboard short cut?  I've searched all over and
can't seem to get any keyboard shortcut to work!  Reading here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349901 it was a bug previously but
seems fixed though it does not work for me. I have gone to
Settings->Configure Shortcuts and made it either Del or Apple+Del and still
doesn't work. Ideas?

- Where can I find more plug ins?

- On the Google Photos export plug in, the exporting/upload works, however,
I cannot seem to create a new album.  I can see all of my albums on
Google/Picasa but no "New Album" button where I'd expect it to be. When I
create a new album on the web version of Google/Picasa it does show up, so
the credentials and login works.

- When I delete an album/photo it does not go into the Mac's trash, instead
it goes into digikam's trash. Is there a way to change this behavior?

- Is there anyway to organize the Album section so I only see a certain
level of folders?  eg I want to see N-1 folders.  My folder naming system is
year, then within that folder is "YYYYMMDD - Event" . I just want to see a
list of the YYYYMMDD - Event folders, not the year.

Thanks in advance!

Re: New to Digikam - a few questions

It is my intention to start publishing tips and/or pushing experienced digikam users to share their knowledge in the near-ish future.

I've still got a few more web site this GS I'd like to handle before that effort begins.

I feel with the semi recent Apple Photos crap, Picasa going away, etc etc that digikam is perfectly poised to step in. There are some fantastic community contributors as well, so I expect great things.

Certainly as you take your first steps, your feedback is very valuable... You can only experience things with a fresh perspective once!

Thank you for the response and the welcome - I've spent a lot of time
scouring these forums for further info. I'm surprise there aren't more posts
about how to take better advantage of DigiKam - eg like top tips for power
users etc..

I was able to get the delete keyboard shortcut to work, albeit NOT the
shortcut I had assigned in the shortcut menu! I have it programmed as
"Delete" however only "FN+Delete" works. Odd..!

Thanks for the background on the trash folder - odd, but I'll get used to
it.

I'm surprised there aren't more plugins - I found a further list of plugins
here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDE_Image_Plugin_Interface

Are there any stats on who uses digiKam? eg number of users, which
platforms, locations, etc...? Just out of curiosity as not many people
default to digiKam, especially after Picasa was removed from service.

Cheers
