I just found a new "digiKam plugin" :-)
It's a GPS tracker for about €90 that loads the track data directly into the SD-cards: http://photofinder.atpinc.com/ Gerhard _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

All donations of GPS tracks welcome, even if you don't want to get involved creating the map. Cheers, Alex Wright. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Apart from that possibility it seems like a nice device, in particular because the UTC time will be in the display (This step is important, because otherwise there is no way to correct time shifts). Presumably it does not support different time-zones. At least it has a SiRF Star III chipset but the running time of about 8hours (according to http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08011601photofinder.asp) is a bit on the low side for my taste ... I am using the similarly priced GlobalSat DG-100. what's good about it: - about 30h or continuous running time; - good signal sensitivity; - very simple interface; - hardware independent; - runs on two standard AA (or AAA) batteries; - the batteries can be recharged by the unit's USB port; what's not so good about it: - the synchronisation process is manual and more tedious (not that there was an alternative when I bought it); - the software that comes with it is utterly useless (but fortunately we're all savvy guys and gpsbabel sorts things out perfectly well); - the camera's clock needs to be accurately set and maintained; I wrote about it in my blog: http://pjvenda.blogspot.com/2007/09/my-new-toy-globalsat-dg-100-gps-data.html Cheers, Pedro Venda. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Note that you can use gphoto2 to set the time of the camera. Together with an up-to-date time for your computer (see ntpdate) this works very well. > I wrote about it in my blog: > http://pjvenda.blogspot.com/2007/09/my-new-toy-globalsat-dg-100-gps-data.html BTW (to all): feel free to update the digikam wiki http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Digikam+Geolocalization which already discusses the DG-100 and some other devices + gives some useful links. However, the new (great!) information that it works with gps-babel has not been added. Cool, I already use ntp regularly, but didn't know that gphoto2 could do that. >> I wrote about it in my blog: >> http://pjvenda.blogspot.com/2007/09/my-new-toy-globalsat-dg-100-gps-data.html > > BTW (to all): feel free to update the digikam wiki > http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Digikam+Geolocalization > which already discusses the DG-100 and some other devices + gives > some useful links. They haven't released any version with code for handling the DG100 in it. Now if only I could do a decent build of digiKam for os X... The sad (or best) thing is that nothing (not even expensive complex commercial stuff) comes close to digiKam in terms of managing a photo library. Essentially: gphoto2 --get-config time and gphoto2 --set-config time=XXXXXXX where the argument for time is the output of: date +%s Important: you might have to add UTC_OFFSET*60*60 to take into account the time zone offset. There is another weird point: sometimes the gphoto2 command work immediately, and sometimes there is a delay of 8-10s.... (Did not have time yet to ask on the gphoto2 mailing list ...) > >> I wrote about it in my blog: > >> http://pjvenda.blogspot.com/2007/09/my-new-toy-globalsat-dg-100-gps-data.html > > > > BTW (to all): feel free to update the digikam wiki > > http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Digikam+Geolocalization > > which already discusses the DG-100 and some other devices + gives > > some useful links. > > I'll see what I can do later tonight. > > > However, the new (great!) information that it works with gps-babel > > has not been added. > > Well... only the CVS HEAD does. He is sometimes in the digikam IRC (#digikam on irc.freenode.net) you could ask him ... This uses KDE4 and is, however, under heavy development and thus not yet recommended for production use, see http://www.digikam.org/?q=about/releaseplan Best, Arnd _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

I can't give any more details as I'm upgrading os X to leopard and got rid of everything-fink to get more disk space. That's why I was trying to compile it manually against all its dependencies and the dependencies of the dependencies...
