I would like to move my digiKam executables from drive C:\kderoot to P:\kderoot.
I copied the directory and ran p:\kderoot\bin\digikam.exe. It started ok, and I could see all my albums, but there was nothing in them. I checked, and all the image files are actually still on the disk. I could also still see all the tags in the tree, but clicking on them gave no results. I closed digikam, and ran c:\kderoot\bin\digikam.exe with the same result. What has happened, and is it recoverable? Luckily I have recently written all the metadata to the files, so reimporting is an option, but I'd prefer to know how this happened. Both digikam4.db and thumbnails-digikam.db are still quite large (13MB and 300MB for 20,000 images), and a quick look with a hex viewer shows lots of references to my image files in them. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
I also just tried restoring some old *.db files, with the same result - I can see the albums, but no images. What other files could it be using? I certainly haven't moved the images.

All ok now, but not sure which of the things I tried fixed it. I scanned for missing thumbnails, then I rebuilt the thumbnails, with no improvement, tried reimporting one directory, no improvement. Then I logged out and in again, and now every copy of digikam is showing all the images again.
I suspect this was nothing to do with moving the software from C: to P:, but may have been the result of swapping between 1.0.0 beta5 and 1.0.0. I suspect that beta5 leaves some processes running that 1.0.0 may try to use unsuccessfully. Or perhaps a process started via C: will cause issues when digiKam started via P: tries to use them. So there are several possible lessons learned here: - don't mix your versions - don't mix copies on different drives - logout to kill all the processes before restarting the software when things go wrong I'm not sure exactly which of these are valid, but the last one is probably worth remembering. ________________________________________ From: Peter Shute [[hidden email]] Sent: Saturday, 23 January 2010 7:44 AM To: digiKam - Home Manage your photographs as a professional with the power of open source Subject: Re: [Digikam-users] Moving digiKam (KDE on windows) to another drive - where have the thumbnails gone? I've learned not to trust this program, so I checked them all and worked around it. I did a search for all files with tags, and wrote the data for just them.
I had assumed that bug was just in the betas, which I was running then. Is it in the final 1.0.0 too? I've since enabled immediate writing of metadata. -------------------------- Sent using BlackBerry ----- Original Message ----- From: Vlado Plaga <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] <[hidden email]> Sent: Sun Jan 24 06:10:07 2010 Subject: Re: [Digikam-users] Moving digiKam (KDE on windows) to another drive - where have the thumbnails gone?
