Firstly, apologies for using Outlook style quoting below. It's all I've got access to at the moment.
I don't know if this is related, but when I start the program I get the message "Unable to use MPlayer multimedia backend. The shared library was not found." I press OK and get a similar message about VLC. I press OK and get one about MPlayer again. This repeats 7 times for each of those programs, then digiKam starts, and seems to run ok, apart from the Light Table problem. ________________________________________ From: Peter Shute [[hidden email]] Sent: Friday, 11 December 2009 1:02 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Digikam-users] Images not visible on Light Table I've just installed digiKam on a Windows XP machine using KDE-Installer. I've ended up with v1.0.0-beta5 and KDE 4.3.4, and I've never used digiKam or KDE before. When I add photos to the Light Table, I can't see them there. Each one that I add increments the count displayed at the bottom of the Light Table, but each pane remains blank, displaying "Drag and drop and image here". The Thumbbar displays a blue folder symbol for each image I try to add (even if it's the same one again), instead of the image itself. Any idea what has gone wrong here? Something else I need to install? Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't see anything in the archives. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
This is not digiKam, but KDE phonon interface which play with
multimedia backend, as xine, mplayer, vlc... There is not multimedia backend code in digiKam. We use phonon api. that all... So it's a KDE startup problem? OK, thanks, then it won't be causing the problem with the Light Table.

I do not know if you have solved the problem, but these messages pointed me in the right direction.
On webpage http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/06/30/how-to-install-and-run-kde-programs-in-windows/ very near the bottom is a link to download of a new phonton.dll http://www.simplehelp.net/images/winkde/phonon.dll I am using Windows XP so I renamed the original file in instalation directory default C:\Program Files\KDE\bin then replaced it with the new version. It worked - Many thanks
