Lightroom Integration: how?

Paul Waldo
Hi all,

I see in the announcement of digiKam 1.0.0-beta2 that support was added for Lightroom:
"Added support of LightRoom keywords path for interoperability purpose"

So, I compiled the latest SVN (Version 1.0.0-beta4 (rev.: 1012366)), but I don't see any mention of Lightroom in any of the menus or configuration dialogs.  What am I missing?  Thanks!

Paul

All is done in background when you import pictures from LR collection.
Of course, LR must be configured to host keywords to image metadata...

Thanks for the reply, Gilles.  Is there anyway to go the other way around; from Digikam to Lightroom?

The reverse is true by the same way. digiKam record in XMP LR
namespace a copy of keywords.

Re: Lightroom Integration: how?

I must be thick-headed, as I can't see how to do it.  I'm searching for a menu option that says something like "Write all tags to XMP file that LightRoom can read", but there must be some other way to do it.  Any instructions would be greatly appreciated!

BTW, none of my images have any metadata embedded in them, as they are mostly raw

Which king of RAW exactly. digiKam can write in some RAW file thrue
Exiv2, as NEF or DNG for exemple, but i recommend to use last Exiv2
version (0.18.2)

With last Exiv2 XMP sidecar file is drived, in read only mode, to
import XMP metadata from LR RAW files to digiKam

The metadata option are in digiKam setup panel. Option name are
generic and do not mention LR.

Digikam doesn't support xmp sidecars, yet. To make it work you have to embed
metadata inside of image. digiKam+exiv2 support that (although I understand
this isn't working right for some families of RAW files).

You enable writing of metadata into files in Metadata section of digiKam
configuration.

Mik,

Well, yes and no. For reading, Exiv2 try to find an xmp sidecar file
with same image file name. If sidecar is found, exiv2 use it instead
to read image file.

For writting, nothing is implemented yet.

This is true for last Exiv2 0.18.2

OK, no wonder I could not find out how to export the data!  So, there is no way currently to export the tags from my Canon Digital Rebel and Canon Powershot G1 raw files into Lightroom, right?

Theoretically there is a way. Use digiKam to write all necessary metadata to
RAW files and later use exiv2 command line tool to extract this metadata to
sidecar files and later import files separately into LR.

Hi Mikolaj,

So this would involve modifying the raw files themselves?  That is very scary for me... :-)

Gilles Caulier-4
If you use CR2, Exiv2 cannot write metadata into this file format. a
sidecar must be used instead

Hi Gilles,

I use CRW, but the only option I see to write metadata is Tools|Write Metadata To All Images.  Will this create sidecars for all my images?

No, it's not yet implemented. there is a file in bugzilla about.

In fact i'm waiting than Exiv2 implement sidecar writting mode
properlly. in theory, when it will be done, updating Exiv2 as well wil
be enough. I need to contact Exiv2 lead developper to be sure
