"Lens Auto-Correction".

clive510@googlemail.com
Hi Guys,

O/S is Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit and digiKam 2.5.

I have three lens and use a Canon EOS 60D;
EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5-6 IS
EF-S 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 IS
EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS

Trouble is I can't find any EF-S lens' in digiKam "Lens Auto-Correction".
Even the, EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS doesn't show.

When I had my old camera, Canon EOS 400D everything I needed was on digiKam.

I'm a upper-level novice.

Thank you in advance

Clive - England

Merci d'avance

Clive - Angleterre

Does Ubuntu use the lensfun packages that Fedora has? List of supported
lenses here:

I'm not certain that digiKam uses these libraries, but it would make
sense.

If the said len's I have are being used for my Canon 400D why would they disappear because I'm using Canon EOS 60D.
Looks like EF type are OK, it's the EF-S type I want and there's none showing.

The EF-S lens' must be there somewhere, unless digiKam auto-deletes the EF-S if you change your camera?
Just want the lens I was using for 400D to stay put.

Digikam does use the lensfun libraries (at least in version 2.9, but I think already before that), and the EF-S lenses are in the lensfun database (see file /usr/share/kde4/apps/digikam/lensfun/slr-canon.xml).

However, I can't get Digikam to show the EF-S lenses in the lens correction tab (even when telling it not to use the metadata).

So you'll have to check your version of the database, and perhaps file a bug report. Try also what happens if you untick the 'use metadata' checkbox.

Remco

Hmm, looks like it could be due to the metadata not correctly
identifying the lens or maybe digiKam not correctly parsing the data
and hence misidentifying the lens itself.

I can only suggest some controlled experiments with different lenses
and see what happens.

It may be that for some reason the camera/lens combination is not seen
as compatible by lensfun or digiKam, I know that the Canon data in DPP
won't work for certain combinations.

Thanks everyone but it's the first time I've used a Ubuntu "LTS".
When I get the time I'll put the latest Ubuntu 12.10 onto another lap-top and see what happens.

I'll get back to you if and when I get the EF-S back in the drop down menu in the Lens Auto-Correction.

In the mean time keep up the good work, still a good bit of software.
