Latest Lensfun Database

Bobber
I just used a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens this weekend for the first time.  I
do not see this lens available when attempting to use auto-correction
but I do see that it is in the Lensfun data base on their web site.  Is
there a way to get this data into the kipi-plugins so that it is
available for Digikam?

Download http://wilson.bronger.org/db/version_0.tar.bz2 and install
its content over your local database.  It is usually in
/usr/share/lib/lensfun/.

Yes, but during the next system update, it shadows an updated
sytem-wide database.  Besides, I recently removed some bogus
entries, and removal is not possible by adding to your home
directory.  Moreover, fixed lens model names end up as double
entries.

By the way, lensfun 0.3.0 makes updating as easy as calling a
command line programm, and the current Git version even doesn't need
root priviledges for this.  Unfortunately, the distros are very
reluctant in packaging it.

Until then, http://wilson.bronger.org/db/version_0.tar.bz2 is
updated every night (at least).

Tschö,
Torsten.

I'm using Ubuntu but with Digikam 4.8 from a different ppa.  I found the
lensfun data (xml files) in /usr/share/lensfun/

I put the latest data in there but when I open Digikam, there is no data
available in any of the three fields: Make, Model, Lens.  But all of
these fields appear to be recognised by Digikam when I click Use Metadata.

Any ideas what is happening?

If you start Digikam from the command line, does Lensfun print
anything?

Which version of Lensfun are you using?

Is there a place where we can see changes, preferably with lens names?

I have some lenses for which data is missing, most important for me a Canon
EF-S 15-85, for which I downloaded a profile from the internet. It would be
nice to be able to see if it appears in the library, in whihc case I might
remove my custom profile.

like this?

[anders@archie ~]$ lensfun-update-data
Reading http://lensfun.sourceforge.net/db/versions.json …
Reading http://wilson.bronger.org/lensfun-db/versions.json …
Fatal: Root privileges needed for updating the database.

Exactly.  Your version still needs sudo, though.

Not really.  We have the public git repo, but for your purpose, is
very inconvenient.  New and updated lenses are in the release notes.

http://wilson.bronger.org/lensfun_coverage.html is updated every

Using archlinux, they may be less reluctant than some other distros ;)

I got it to work.  The lensfun data base is in a package named:
liblensfun-data.  I found a ppa with the most recent package.  I'm not
sure if this package replaced the data or added something else that
allows to work with the data that I copied.  But it is working with my
lens (and many more).

For reference, Ubuntu stores the data (xml files) in /usr/share/lensfun/

Sorry, this my fault.  This should be the case in most Linux
variants.

No problem, thanks for the help Torsten!

I really love Digikam.  I have tried using some of the other programs
for photo editing but nothing is as useful as Digikam for me.  The
ability to move the mouse and see before and after rendering is the most
compelling feature of the photo editor for me.  I am able to see
immediately what effect any change will have on the photo.
