Last version for Digikam in Linux Mint 17.2

Carlos Martín
Hello people!

I installed Linux Mint clean 17.2 (previously had 17).
I added the PPPA digikam philip

upgrade packages installed. But Digikam install from repositories Rafaela !! version 4.0.0!

the fact is that
if I do a apt-cache show digikam if I get the ppa version of philip!

I think have a version of packages problem. Linux Mint 17.2 not have the version of packages need to install latest Digikam

Anybody have the same problem?

Sorry for my english im spanish

Regards

Re: Last version for Digikam in Linux Mint 17.2

Philip Johnsson

Hi

This have been reported before by Linux Mint users. It use pin priority of repositories and down priority my ppa and treat is as an unstable source and give priority to digikam in your official repository as a stable source. You can see the pin priority number by the different sources for digikam when running "apt-cache policy digikam" in your terminal.

Ask a Linux Mint user how to solve it or google pin priority and Ubuntu/Debian/Mint repository and how to change how you treat a source. With Ubuntu this isn't an issue.

Regards,

Philip

Hi,

See these for clarification:

<http://askubuntu.com/questions/135339/assign-highest-priority-to-my-local-repository>
<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26911509/how-can-i-configure-linux-mint-17-to-get-the-latest-virtualbox>
<http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/37603/enabling-apt-repository-priority-in-lmde>

Either you have a file named /etc/apt/preferences with all the pin
ordering, or you have (like in my case) separate files for each repo
inside /etc/apt/preferences.d

For example, my philip5-extra-ppa.pref contains:

Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-philip5-extra
Pin-Priority: 700

Higher number of Pin-Priority gives extra priority over packages from
other repositories. But seems there are other subtilities too.

Best regards,
Sveinn í Felli

Thanks for reply!

I change the ppa priority , but i have a version problem :(     (Priority of philip ppa = 700)

" digikam : Depende: libkgeomap2 (>= 1.0~digikam4.12.0) pero no va a instalarse"

Some packages depend of new version packages. :(

I hope linux mint team fix this

Re: Last version for Digikam in Linux Mint 17.2

Hi Carlos
to be of some relief I have had same situation with different files and yesterday Have had a bad risk of getting my system messed up. Fortunately I was able to recover all system in good health. Then I decided to stay back to 4.0 which is the one supported in Mint.
I lost any hope anyone in Mint be willing to fix problems like this.
To say the truth I have never understood why for digikam things are not like any deb packages (think first to Vbox, o WPS packages and many others)...but something technical, that I am not able to get, is on the run for this.

Re: Last version for Digikam in Linux Mint 17.2

In reply to this post by Carlos Martín
Are you trying to rebuild digikam on your computer as you run "apt-get build-dep digikam"? Otherwise that command isn't needed.

One other thing with Linux Mint and other distributions based on ubuntu 14.04. You need to check if you have KDE 4.13 och KDE 4.14 that your system is using with Digikam. If you use KDE 4.13 then you ONLY use my "extra" PPA but if you use KDE 4.14 (backported or just updated) then you need BOTH my "extra" PPA AND my "kubuntu-backports" PPA that have some packages rebuilt to work with KDE 4.14. (also set pin priority for my "kubuntu-backports" PPA if needed)

When you updated digikam with my PPA did you use "apt-get update" or "apt-get dist-upgrade". Try "apt-get dist-upgrade" and see if that help sorting out your conflicting packages with libkgeomap2. My guess is that your conflict have something to do with marble and KDE version.

I don't think Linux Mint will "fix" the pin priority thing as I think they see it as a feature to keep LTS as stable as possible with locking down what they see as unstable sources.

Hope this helps.

/Philip
