KDE code sprint for kde-imaging and digikam

Bugzilla from anaselli@linux.it
Hi
as you've probably seen in these days we talked about
code sprint. Since i cannot move this year i've proposed
the town in which i live, e.g. Genoa in Italy [1] :)

Valerio and me are members of an association (ALID [2]) that are
hosted by Zenzero at address [3]. Zenzero approved our request and
that means we can host the event.

Now we need to book the room, fixing the event on their calendar, so
we need to to know how many people and when.

Aaron about accomodation, should that be done by us and payed
by kde, or anyone have to think about himself (always sponsored by kde)?

Anyway I believe Gilles is the best one who can write the todo list of the
event, let's call it the aim :)

Gilles told me about some of them:
- finish the digiKam KDE4 porting.
- improve the kipi-plugins KDE4 porting.
- create an general purpose export plugin that implements picasa,
  flickr, Gallery, etc.
- improve libkipi

Sorry Gilles i couldn't get the following one (that i quote here):
- port of libkdcraw to libraw (already started by me but not simple :
http://websvn.kde.org/branches/work/libkdcraw-libraw/)

Time should be chosen to best fit and avoid conflicts with the Zenzero events
3 days, two of them during the week-end, e.g. from Friday to Sunday or
from Saturday to Monday.
I've suggested not to do that on October because in Genoa we have
the international boat show [4] and the 25th the Italian Linux day[5].
Anyway from 31/10 to 2/11 could be ok. Please add your preference so that
we can decide soon.

Regards,
        Angelo

P.S. sorry for my cross-posting message.

usually we have the room booked by the people organizing and then KDE e.V.
pays for the accomodation.

for that to happen, however, a proposal with details needs to be sent to kde-
ev-board at kde dot org so the board can approve the request properly.

i already spoke to Gilles about this on irc the other day =)

sounds great; will there be others there as well, such as perhaps someone from
gwenview? krita?

well, i personally won't be attending. i just wanted to see some developer
sprints happening for the kdegraphics applications community =)

Ok, sounds good, i need to check if i can find help for that here then.

eh eh, yes he told me that yestarday, but i have another thing to ask you for
anyway :) Should the proposal contains the accomodation prize? because again
i should know how many and when tp find the hotels or any other solution....

Gilles can we prepare it together? I believe you are the best one who can
get a good proposal, while i can add all about organization here.

Well i do hope Aurelien will join us either for kipi-plugins or for gwenview.

yes,the proposal should contain enough information for us (you and the e.V.)
to put together a budget for the event. usually that includes:

* the location for the event

* who is coming, and from where they will be coming from (travel is often a
large component of the expenses)

* the accomodations and their cost

* other costs that might need to be covered

note that we usually don't cover food and drink =)

that would be great.

oh, one other thing we like to see on the attendee list is some new
contributors. we (the e.V. board) see developer sprints as a way to also
introduce new blood into existing projects. we don't want sprints to become a
sort of "old boys club" either. so we usually look for new faces in the crowd
at these events. usually this isn't a problem for projects, but something they
sometimes overlook at first.

a "new person" might be someone who start contributing to the project in the
last year or so or someone who has perhaps been around long than a year but
never been to a face-to-face event with others in the project.

finally, the proposal doesn't need to be long and fancy. in fact, for the e.V.
board's sake we prefer short and to the point. a simple email with all the
relevant facts is usually enough =)

like this again.

We have Andi Clement starting as a full developer not longer than a year ago,
and I dont think we ever had a meeting of the full team, at least I have not
ever met anyone from the team face-to-face, unfortunately. Time to change
that!

Saturday and Sunday are no problem for me.
I cannot know as of now if university makes me attend courses on Friday
afternoon, and I do not know that so far in advance. Other than that, Friday
would be fine as well.

For calculating the budget: I live in Essen, Germany, which means for me going
by plane I assume.

Well these dates are fine for me. I've got plans later in November but
this weekend is fine.

That said, as I've not contributed code for quite some time, I'd feel a
little guilty taking up this offer. That said, I'm still very keen to
get the synchronisation stuff working well as because this has been on
my mind for so long, the lack of it is actually *stopping* me sharing my
photos with friends which in turn stops me *taking* them sometimes! It's
brutally ironic that my own lack of productivity is actually what is
holding me back!

But that aside, I think if we can get the ideas arranged prior to
meeting up we can have a very productive time and get a whole heap done :)

For me that week end it's okay, so I'll be there! I'm from Italy (Senigallia,

hmm i believe you're nearer than Andrea :)

btw, there's a thing i'd like to understand. The event can't be too long, and
that's ok and clear to me too. Anyway three days, means two night. Now
the travel can take long, and that could take time to the first day, and the last
of course, so the coding time will be reduced to one day and something more
(almost two days, not more i believe). Is that ok?

Yes, you are right. This will reduce coding time to 2 days.

This is why we need to know exactly when contributor will come and back.

Other problem is to have an idea of cost of travel and accomodation for KDE-ev.

We need to post here all questions in a template document. All contributors fill the doc and return informations here

Gilles

yes, and the list of contriburs as well.

well for accomodation i need to know at least how many to start asking for it
or to hotels or to travel agency.

I propose at least:
Name - from - project - preferred date

We wil collect them so that we can start evaluating.

Well if he is already in Paris, the cost should be less then, but we need to know it
before making a proposal.

Well, if things go as planned, my trip to/fro from Paris is currently scheduled to be like October 7th to 14th. Then I would be back to India. There is very little chance of me extending my trip in France to make it extended to 22rd to 29th October and then merge the two trips.

My tentative personal France visit is an extention of my business trip to US, its not a world tour of any sort  :)

As per flying hours, I guess something close to 10 hrs :) They do have flights to CDG airport(France) and I don't mind travelling from there to Italy (All depends on what my VISA allows me too :))
