Is there really no easy way to select some images and export them?

Chris Green
Further to my recent questions about Export etc. is it *really* as
difficult as it seems to select some images from an album (but not the
whole album) and export them somewhere?

It feels like this should be something easy to do that everyone would
want to do but it would seem not, am I in a minority of one for
wanting to do this?

For example I guite frequently I upload a 'chipful' of images into
digikam and place them in a temporary directory before sorting them
out into their final album resting place.  Family and friends then ask
"can we see the latest pictures of xyz please" and so I want to select
those pictures from the temporary area in digikam and export them -
not possible!  The only way to do it seems to be to create yet another
temporary album in digikam, copy the pictures to there and then export
them.

I love digikam in general but it has a few little quirks, the other
one for me being the inability to sort albums by date.

Create a virtual album with Tags feature and export it as well.

I also download from my camera into a "temporary" album I call "Unsorted".  I name and edit the pictures there, then copy them into two or more other albums - To Back-up, whatever subject I want them in, Pictures to Print, etc.  The aim is to have the Unsorted album empty or very small, but since all are albums, I can easily copy, print, back up to a thumb drive etc. from any of them.  I use my (Dolphin) file manager to do this, dragging or cut and paste-ing, which works, though sometimes digikam or Dolphin balks at copying too many at a time.
Is there a separate entity that is a "temporary" album?

I'm not sure what you mean by export.  Do you mean to export them to say a thumb drive or something else?

To send selected images to a thumb drive use Export>Export to remote computer and then select the thumb drive.

I mean export them to Gallery2 or to HTML Gallery, or whatever.  I.e.
the places you can export to using the Export menu.

As I said all I want to do really is export some picture I have
selected to something like Gallery2 so I can quickly show those images
to friends/family etc.

I've not tried either Gallery (don't even know what it is), HTML export looked (to me) to export entire albums, so would seem to have what you described.

Export to Picasaweb (where I normally export to) seemed to work just fine, I selected images, selected export to there and just the images I'd selected went in for export, so maybe a problem with those particular plugins?

That's right, *some* of the Export destinations work the way I want
allowing one to export images one has selected but others only allow
one to export whole albums.  I want to export the pictures to my own
server and this means I seem to get the 'only export whole album'
exports.

Is it possible for end users to create their own exports or modify existing
ones so that we can fix things like this?

Re: Is there really no easy way to select some images and export them?

I can't answer your question but there is a pretty quick work around.

You select your images then right click and Click on Assign tag>Add new tag then type in some new tag name like "temp".  DK will assign the new tag to the selected images then you click on the right panel tag filters and select the "temp" tag.  You can now do your export on that selection set.  After your done you can right click on the "temp" tag and delete it.

Clearly not the solution that you want but it's a pretty quick work around until you get that solution.
